Bir Chilagang Basumatary remembered

KOKRAJHAR: Peoples from all walks of life and organisation remembered Bir Chilagang Basumatary, now defunct  founder chairman of Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT), towards the Bodoland movement, who revolt with arms for the separate state of Bodoland within India, on his 23th death anniversary being organised at the burial place Bir Chilagang Puri at Bongshigaon on Sunday in Kokrajhar district.

Local people thronged to paid floral tribute at the  cemetery of Basumatary at  Bongshigaon, was organized by Bir Chilagang Martyrs Tomb Development Committee, Bongshigaon.       

Ramani Basumatary, widow of late Basumatary paid floral tribute followed by leaders from various organisations. Basumatary survived by wife, two sons and a daughter. Basumatary was born on 1st February, 1959 at Bongshigaon and expired on June 28, 1997 due to prolonged illness.

Assam Social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma,ex-BTC executive members Rajib Brahma,former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma,UPPL leader Rabiram Brahma,
chairman of ex-BLT welfare sosciety Janamahan Mushahary, leaders from ABSU,BPF,Tribal Sangha,ABWWF paid tribute to Bsaumatary and observed one minute silent condolence in memory of Basumatary for his departed soul.

New political party forms in BTAD

KOKRAJHAR: A new political outfit was floated in Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) at a convention held at Pathshala in Baksa district on Sunday. The newly floated political party has been named as Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) headed by Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania. The party has appointed ten executive members. In the meeting, BTAD army was also formed to work to the extensive services amongst all sections of the society. Sarania said that the newly floated political party will work for all round development of the region. He said that the party is planning to put candidature in all 35 seats in the upcoming BTC elections next year.

Daoharu Mungkhlong trophy begins

Kokrajhar: The 22nd edition of the Daoharu Mungkhlong Football Trophy 2019 began here at Dotma HS School playground in Kokrajhar district on Sunday. 10 teams from the state and West Bengal are participating in the competition. Teams includ Sunrise FC, Guwahati, Bhopal FC, Madhya Pradesh, Bilwgw Club, West Bengal, Nazira RH FC, Sibsagar, Barhoongkha AC, Kokrajhar, Global Football Academy, Gossaigaon, Eleven Star Bongaigaon, Dhupdhara FC, Goalpara, Reserve Bank of India, Guwahati and DASA XI,Dotma. BTC executive member Ansumwi Khungur Boro graced in the opening day as chief guest. In the inaugural match, Dhupdhara FC beat Bilwgw FC, West Bengal by 3-1 goals.

UPPL ready for election

KOKRAJHAR,SEP 21: "United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) is fully prepared to contest the upcoming BTC general council election to be held next year. There is no word of unification with ruling BPF", said UPPL president Urkhao Gwra Brahma. Brahma said this at a special convention of the Kokrajhar district unit of the party at Dotma UPPL party office in Kokrajhar on Saturday. Physical assault on magistrate in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: In a heart touching incident, Kokrajhar SP Rajen Singh physical assaulted  EAC Sailen Das at a gettogeter inside a hotel in Kokrajhar as video of CCTV footages state. The incident has come into light after a video became viral on social media on Friday. According to sources, there was a get together organised by district administration at Hotel Gaurang Valley on September 9 where the incident took place.  Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal ordered an official inquiry into the incident. RTI activist Dural Bora also filed a compalint in this regard with CID Assam on Saturday.  

ABSU expelled Rinjoy Boro

KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) expelled of Rinjoy Boro from central committee for his anti organizational activities. In a press statement, assistant general secretary of the students union, Khwrwmdao Wary said the student's union after the cabinet meeting held on Friday has decided to take disciplinary action against Rinjoy Boro, who was one of the central committee ABSU, Secretary. Rinjoy Boro hails from Harisinga of Udalguri district.

Veterinary school inaugurated

KOKRAJHAR: BTC executive member Shyam Sundi inaugurated the extended campus of School of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry at Titaguri in Kokrajhar district, on Thursday. 66 trainees, who are selected as veterinary field assistant (VFA) under veterinary and animal husbandry department are taking training in the school. Sundi said that the school is giving an opportunity to train students from  veterinary and animal husbandry in the region as well as whole of the state.He said that peoples from the region would be benefited from the school. Three arrested in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Police apprehended three persons including a government employee involved with cheating related cases from Kokrajhar town on Thursday. According to Police, Kokrajhar and Guwahati police have jointly carried out a search operation and apprehended the trio. They have been identified as Alok Sen (49) of Prince Golam Hossain Shah Road, Kolkata, Pradip Kalita (42) of Jamalpur of Kamrup rural and Manoj Kumar Deka (75) of Geetanagar, Guwahati. Kalita is a fourth grade government employee in PHE department.

KOKRAJHAR: At a time when state PWD minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma drumming for renovation of all PWD roads across the state, citizens from greater Bhotgaon area in Kokrajhar, heart of BTAD have expressed resentment. Protest to fill vacancies of school teachers

KOKRAJHAR: "Several hundred teacher's posts are lying vacant in Bodo medium schools of Kokrajhar district as well across the state. The state government should initiate filling these vacancies by appointing teachers and make healthy educational environment", said the All Bodo Primary Teachers' Association (ABPTA). President of Kokrajhar district unit of the association, Dwmwilu Basumatary told that the Bodo medium schools are facing lots of problem and crisis in their curriculum for a long time. He said that the schools are not getting the textbooks on time as the new curriculum begins from the first week of January. He informed that many schools lack teachers leading to poor performance...
