Truck driver arrested for reporting fake hijack
Nagaon: A Guwahati based truck driver and his wife have been arrested for reporting a fake truck hijacking case at the Raha police station , police said here on Sunday. Lakshman Das , officer in-charge , Raha police station told media ANN service that a truck driver Pranjit Kalita on Tuesday morning complained to Raha P S that some miscreants after beating him severely hijacked the truck he was driving from Guwahati to Tinsukia at night in Dighaliati area under Raha P S. The truck was carrying 19.95 metric ton iron rods from Panikhaiti , Guwahati to Pawan Steel , Makum road , Tinsukia.
Initially police believed the driver's statement. Later when police started investigating the case , it came to light that the truck was not hijacked at Raha as alleged by the driver Pranjit Kalita. Police after interrogating Kalita came to know that the truck changed course from Guwahati and started heading Shillong ,Meghalaya instead of its actual destination Tinsukia and it was a conspiracy Kalita and his truck owner wife Mamoni Kalita planned. On reaching Shillong, Pranjit first sold the iron rods and then the truck.
Acting on the inputs , a team of Raha police led by OC Lakshman Das headed for Shillong on Friday to recover the truck and the iron rods. In Shillong police successfully nabbed a person identified as Dangeitlang Siang Shai of Pohktich , East Khasi Hills , in whose residence the iron rods were recovered. Although , police failed to find out the truck but search is on.

RAHA: A dreaded dacoit died and another sustained serious injury when a gang war took place in Nagaon on Sunday. The incident took place at Nagabandha in the wee hours where a group of armed dacoits were travelling on a vehicle. As they reached Juria suddenly they spotted another gang and started gun firing at each other. Identified as Jonab Ali, an infamous died on the spot while another sustained serious injury who is fighting to survive at the hospital. Then both the groups vanished from the spot. RAHA: Two minor boys met watery grave when the duo along with a few others were going to bath in a river in Nagaon district on Saturday. The incident took place in Chapormukh area at around 11.30 in the morning as they were bathing on the river Kopili. Suddenly, the river water current washed Akash Rai and Mukti Prasad Bora—both studying in Hansora School who failed to bail out of the strong undercurrent. Local residents in large number along with SDRF personnel arrived in the spot and fished out the bodies leaving a pall of gloom in the area.

RAHA: In a stepped up crackdown across the state against the illegal coal traders, the police in Raha intercepted five coal truck on Tuesday. Acting on a tip off the policeman on the National Highway No 37 seized the five trucks loaded with coal early in the morning. The drivers, who have been detained, confessed to have brought the huge consignment to Guwahati from Jowai in Meghalaya. Interrogation is going on. JAGIROAD: Amid an escalating shock and anger over the rape and murder incident in Nagaon, the Khetri police in Morigaon district caught a youth for trying to molest a minor girl on Monday. The incident took place at Kahikuchi near the National Highway No 37 on Sunday evening when the Class VI girl was forcibly taken away to a place by a local youth who raped her and left away. The local residents and family members rescued her and moved the police station with a complaint. Acting on the complaint the police have arrested the accused Raufik Ali.
