Udalguri joins International labour day celebration
UDALGURI: Along with the rest of the world International labour day was also observed with a day long programme at Panery TE of Udalguri on Tuesday.
The programme organized by Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha(ACMS) Mangaldai Branch.The open session presided over by President of Mamgaldai Branch ACMS Ismail Hial was graced by Rajya Sabha MP cum Org. Secretary of ACMS Santiuse Kujur as chief guest.
Speaking on the ocassion the student leader turned politocian Kujur said"The ACMS ever since its inception way back in 1958 has been taking revolutionary steps and working for the cause of the tea garden labours.Kujur extending his good wishes to the august gathering of representatives of ACMS from 18 tea gardens and labours from various tea gardens of Udalguri lambasted the present state and central government for adopting anti people's policies detrimental to the cause of the labour community. He stated that under the Plantation Labour Act, 1951, the wages of plantation workers include cash besides ration, healthcare and education services (in kind).”
He also lambasted the state government for turning deaf ears to the apathy of 119 single teacher Lower Primary schools in state.The meeting was also attended by ACMS Mangaldai Branch Secretary,Dayal Silver Kujur ;Nonai-Serfang MCLA,Suresh Tanti; Udalguri AASAA Vice-President Khagen Tanti and host of other dignitaries. Cultural troupes also performed Jhumur Dance and enthralled the gathering.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.
AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two others for not wearing masks.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.
The house belongs to Fakira Ansari, Manik Ali,Bhim Ram,Raj Kumar Prasad,Akon Rabha and Sankar Basfor.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.
UDALGURI: Chirang Police suspended a sub inspector rank police officer serving as Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang district after he allegedly assaulted a doctor and two of his accomplices for not wearing masks on Sunday.
