All out against imported Gamochas
UDALGURI: A couple of days after the Udalguri AASU workers seized imported gamochas , the Udalguri district administration sprang into action and seized a good number of traditional Assamese drape from a number of retail shops in and around Udalguri town.
The team led by Assistant commissioner,Lakhyajyoti Duwariya;Extension officer of Sericulture department,Bhanulata Mushahary;Inspector of handloom and textiles,Munindra Chandra Lahkar
conducted the sudden raid in the town and seized the machine made gamosas.
The authority also warned the businessmen of dire consequences if they keep importing gamochas for sale .
The administration asked the businessmen to sell only the locally made gamosas during the season of bihu to encourage the traditional cottage industry of the state.
The Handloom (Reservation of Articles for Production) Act, 1985, mandates gamosa and similar traditional items should only be made in handlooms.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.
