Drugs seized in Manipur

 Drugs worth Rs 3 crore were intercepted here on Saturday by police and arrested a man in connection with the incident.

Police said 72,000 pieces of WY tablets and 286 gm of heroin were uncovered from a sand-loaded mini truck around noon. They identified the drug peddler as Nongmaithem Ranjit, 56, son of Dolanjao of Nambol Heikrujam Nongmaithem Leikai within Bishnupur district.

The drug haul could have fetched more than Rs 3 crore if it had been allowed to hit the streets. The seized drugs the ‘World is Yours’ worth rupees 2 crore and 88 thousand while the heroin worth rupees 28 lakh and 50 thousand. 

The vehicle reportedly coming from Moreh in Tengnoupal district was intercepted near NG College, Lamphelpat by a team of Lamphel Police Station, headed by its Officer-in-Charge under the supervision of Imphal West Superintendent of Police.

Police said that acting on a tip off the vehicle was intercepted when the drugs were found hidden in the sand.

A case has been registered over the incident under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances Act (NDPS). The seized contraband items have been handed over to Imphal Police Station.

Assam Rifles seized 12,125 pieces of WY tablets worth around Rs 60.62 lakh in the market and arrested five suspected drug peddlers in two separate incidents at Khudengthabi security check post on Imphal-Moreh sector of NH-102 on Monday.
