42 injured hospitalised after lathi-charge in Salakati

There are still 42 injured persons taking treatment at different hospitals in lower Assam districts afterthe  lathi-charged incident at Salakati railway station in Kokrajhar on Thursday.

Police has been kept 11 agitators on their custody since Thursday.

On the other hand, ABMSU demands early released of detained persons without any condition in earliest manner.

At least 60 people, including 10 police personnel were injured when a rail blockade call given by All Bodoland Minority Students Union (ABMSU) turned violent at Salakati railway station in Kokrajhar district on Thursday. ABMSU members attempted rail blockades in the two districts prompting police action leading to scuffles between the two sides. Still today, 42 injure persons are taking medical treatment at various hospitals, apart from Kokrajhar RNB civil, Basugaon PHC, Kajalgaon JSB civil hospital and Bongaigaon Lower Assam hospital. Seven of them said to be critical, are going under treatment at Bongaigaon Lower Assam hospital.

 In Kokrajhar, three are taking treatment, identified as Kheramot Ali (48),Rahim Khan(39) and Mansur Ali(28).Police detained yesterday 46 protestors from Salakati rail station. However, 35 persons were by late evening and kept 11 under police custody at Kokrajhar PS.

Meanwhile,ABMSU termed that atrocities on agitators by police was unwanted and condemned.The ABMSU was on democratic movement seeking justice to the Lafikul Islam Ahmed murder case,but police suddenly jumped to resorted for lathi-charged,which led to received serious injuries of protestors.

The ABMSU demanded early released of detained persons without any condition and urged the government to make medical facilities to injured persons in the incident.

Several organisations including AAKRASU and ABAMSU have reportedly, called a 12-hour-long Assam bandh on January27 in protest against proposed UTC for BTAD. These organisations are apprehensive that the Union government is going to upgrade the BTC as UTC. Already, they have warned the Union government to abdicate such move.
