Guwahati joins World Food Day

Assam joined the World Food Day on Monday commemorating the founding of Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in 1945.

In this context, an awareness programme was organised at Khanapara, by the ‘Krishi Mitra’ , a non government organisation, where several farmers and agricultural experts participated.

Participating in the programme, Dr Kishore Barthakur, an nutritional expert appealed to the masses to fight against hunger and menace of flood wastes. Dr. Ruby Gogoi, Project Coordinator , Organic Farming highlighted in the programme about different schemes, which will help to meet up thechallenges of retaining farmers on the Farm. 

Mowsam Hazarika , Assistant Director of Agriculture delivered a talk on importance of different ongoing agricultural schemes in Assam , namely, PMFBY, NFSM etc in the meeting. 

WFD is the most celebrated day of the United Nations as over 150 countries across the world organize events to create awareness leading food security and to achieve Zero Hunger Huger by 2030. 

 

This year the theme is ‘Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development’.

A total of 80 patients were seen in a free cancer detection camp held at Sanjevani Hospital in which 20% was found to have pre cancerous lesions and two patients was detected cancer in the oral cavity. The camp was held recently in the Department of E..N.T. headed by senior consultant Dr. Bhaben Choudhury.
