Assam Agriculture Department gear up for speedy implementation of National Project on Organic Farming. Total 15,000 organic farmers will be covered under this project. It may be mention that, the Assam Agriculture Department has given special effort to promote organic farming in the state. Several farmers showing positive response towards organic farming. A 10 day long Training of Certification and Inspection Agency/ Service Provider under this project started here from today (2.6.2009). By inaugurating this training, Mrigen Kalita, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Agriculture Department said that, the State Government has given special thrust to promote organic farming in Assam. Dr. Prasanta Kalita, Director of Agriculture, Assam and Dr. Harshajyoti Barooah, Director of Horticulture & Food Processing also narrated the potentiality of organic farming in Assam. Dr. D. N. Chakravarty, Retd. Dean, College of Agriculture, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat explained about the maintenance of natural fertility of soil for promotion of organic farming. Dr. B. Kalita, Senior Agriculture Development Officer has given introductory lecture in the training. The training will be continued up to 11th June next.
