GOC 3 Corps calls on Manipur Chief Minister

Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, AVSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps, arrived in the state on a two-day visit from 29 September 28-29. 

The very senior army commander is responsible for ensuring security of the Indian borders as well as for countering insurgency in the south-eastern states of the North East India, IGAR (S) said in a statement.   

The Army General, accompanied by the Head of Assam Rifles in Manipur -General Virender Singh, called on Chief Minister N Biren Singh yesterday evening. 

General Chauhan also conveyed his warm greetings and good wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Durga Puja. 

During the meeting the General Officer discussed the security and law and order situation in the state with the Chief Minister and assured him of the Army’s commitment to working towards bringing lasting peace in the region. 

General Virender Singh, while conveying the unstinted support of his forces for ensuring the well being of the state, emphasized on the fact that a vast majority of the Assam Rifles are from in and around Manipur. 

Being sons of the soil themselves, they are passionately contributing towards advancement of the state in their own sphere of work, besides assisting the civil administration in maintaining peace, they are mainly focussed on empowering the children, women and youth of the state to attain financial sustainability and a secure future, he said. 

The Assam Rifles is also making a concerted effort towards harnessing the immense talent available in the state in an array of different sporting activities and in the field of art and literature. 

This is being done by providing them with guidance, counselling, training and suitable platforms to showcase their talent. 

The close coordination and interaction between the state government and security forces was highlighted and well appreciated by both the Chief Minister and the Military General, the statement said.

Manipur: NH-2 remains cut off after landslide

A major landslide near Karong of the district has cut off Manipur’s supply-line through Nagaland. Torrential rain has hit normal life in most parts of Senapati. Flash floods and landslides wreaked havoc in the hill district where standing crops in large tracks of paddy fields were damaged in the past few days. The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has sanctioned Rs 25 crore to introduce air ambulance service in remote locations of Manipur, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla has said. Interacting with media persons at the Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday, the Manipur Governor Dr Najma said the amount was sanctioned by the DoNER Ministry after she personally moved the proposal in a recent meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC). “Discussions are on to decide the proposed air medical service delivery model in the state,” the Governor said.
