Durga puja festivity grips Namrup along with other parts of the country with industrial town dressing afresh amid dew drops and fragrance of season flowers.

Shops and malls in the town, known for thermal power and fertilizer plants, are teeming with the people who are buying clothes and other materials during the Durga puja, the occasion to worship thr goddess of strength. 

Places like BVFCL  Daily Market  Puja Mandap , Nagadolong Puja Mandap , Sector ( B) Durga Mandir , Dillighat , Dillibagan , Salibasa , Namrup Sarmah Tiniali , Namrup tea Estate , Hapjan , Kumari Mandir start throbbing with the sounds of dhakis to welcome the presiding deity. 

The administration has made elaborate arrangement to ensure peace and normalcy during the five day long festival which begins on Saturday. Talking to Assam Times,  Namrup Police Station Officer Incharge Chandan Milli Said " Thus time altogether 20 Puja pendals are lined up on thr occasion. The cultural functions are restricted beyond  10 pm . Same restriction is applicable in the case of unauthorised liquor shops and gambling.” 

“We have received a slew of instructions and have  kept the volunteers on maximum alert.  Fire fighters are also  ready. In fact, we will ensure peace and normalcy,” he said. 

On the other hand, the Durga Puja pendal in  Namrup sector (B) temple is celebrating its golden jubilee, being one of the oldest organizing committee.

The Namrup Nagadolong  Puja pendal is trying to retain the pride of being the best one in Namrup Since it received the award for the last two consecutive years.

A bike rider died and another sustained serious injury when his two wheeler hit RBT Straight in Namrup Tea Estate on Thursday.The accident took place in the morning when Sunil Konwar, the 19 year old son of a BVFCL employee who was riding on the bike lost control over the two wheeler and hit RBT Straight wire fencing."The mishap took place at around 10 pm and the bikers were on the way from Namrup Station Road to the Namrup Town. Five workers were seriously injured when a fire broke out at Jeypore oil reed after a big explosion on Thursday evening. After the explosion fire broke out in the Oil India Limited run rig van which was later controleed with fire tenders.  The injured were shifted to Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh.

A workshop of Jyoti-Bishnu Rabha songs started in B.V.F.C.L HS School Auditorium, Namrup which is organised by Namrup Swargam Kala Niketan. Ten years have passed since BSNL services started beeping in Namrup. But interrupted service has forced hundreds of it's customers to shed much to the delight of the private cell service providers. Many customers have alleged that the service remains disrupted for almost 24 hours in the entire locality. Amid an escalating man-elephant conflict, a huge herd of wild elephants unleashed no less terror in Joypur area in Namrup on Monday. The elephants who were believed to have come down from the nearby Jeypore Reserved Forest started managed to sneak into Cyko gaon and Panichukia Bongaon before damaging crops, trees and many medicinal plants triggering panic among the local residents.
