Durga puja festivity grips Namrup along with other parts of the country with industrial town dressing afresh amid dew drops and fragrance of season flowers.

Shops and malls in the town, known for thermal power and fertilizer plants, are teeming with the people who are buying clothes and other materials during the Durga puja, the occasion to worship thr goddess of strength. 

Places like BVFCL  Daily Market  Puja Mandap , Nagadolong Puja Mandap , Sector ( B) Durga Mandir , Dillighat , Dillibagan , Salibasa , Namrup Sarmah Tiniali , Namrup tea Estate , Hapjan , Kumari Mandir start throbbing with the sounds of dhakis to welcome the presiding deity. 

The administration has made elaborate arrangement to ensure peace and normalcy during the five day long festival which begins on Saturday. Talking to Assam Times,  Namrup Police Station Officer Incharge Chandan Milli Said " Thus time altogether 20 Puja pendals are lined up on thr occasion. The cultural functions are restricted beyond  10 pm . Same restriction is applicable in the case of unauthorised liquor shops and gambling.” 

“We have received a slew of instructions and have  kept the volunteers on maximum alert.  Fire fighters are also  ready. In fact, we will ensure peace and normalcy,” he said. 

On the other hand, the Durga Puja pendal in  Namrup sector (B) temple is celebrating its golden jubilee, being one of the oldest organizing committee.

The Namrup Nagadolong  Puja pendal is trying to retain the pride of being the best one in Namrup Since it received the award for the last two consecutive years.

Normal life was affected in Namrup as six communities demanding schedule tribe (ST) status called statewide bandh on Monday, marked by a few stray incidents. Forest department in Namrup is celebrating 68th Van Mahotsav from Saturday. Van Mahotsav is also being celebrated at Namrup Thermal SBI Bank campus, Namrup Thermal Subdivisonal office and Namrup Dillighat. Tree saplings were distributed on this occasion.     
The namrup police on Friday arrested four persons involved in thefts of two wheeler from Kanubari in Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh. Police recovered one stolen bike from them. The accused have been identified as Mintu gogoi (18, Pranjal gogoi (23), Suraj Hazarika (18) from Abhyapur village and Ratul sonowal (19) from Khermeria village. According to police, they have acted after a report of stolen bike from the hosue of Anjali Boruah of Dilli Duwania village. Police regisrered a case under IPC 380 and sent the four accused to District Jail in Dibrugarh.
A rare black thorn fish pulled huge crowed after it was rescued at a local market in Namrup on Monday which later was rescued for proper conservation by thr forest department. The unique creature of 30 cm length was brought to the BVFCL namghar chariali by a retailer Dipankar Gogoi who procured it  from a local fisherman. The fisherman is believed to have caught it in a deep drain at Sonari tiniali. A 9-feet-long   Python, weighting 12 kg, was rescued  in a residential area of Namrup thermal power station. It was caught while consuming a duck in a garden. After noticing the python, the owner of the resident informed the Namrup forest beat office. A team of  forest staff rescued the python and sent to Jeypore Reserved Forest.
