AMWJU protest over murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh
Member of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) today staged a sit-in protest to condemn the killing of senior journalist and Editor Gauri Lankesh on September 5.
Gauri Lankesh, also an activist, was shot to death by unidentified persons near her residential gate at Bengaluru.
The demonstration was held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal. The scribe protesters held several placards expressing condemnation against the murder of Gauri Lankesh.
The placards read “We journalists do not work to be killed,” “Stop killing journalist,” “We strongly condemn killing of Gauri Lankesh” and “Stop killing journalist.”
On the sidelines of the protest, AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Samjai said, “We condemn killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh.”
He said Manipur has also witnessed such killings and termed the incident of Gauri Lankesh a direct challenge to the freedom of press.
Samjai appealed to all concerned no to repeat such violent incidents in future.
The Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) had yesterday condemned the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh while expressing shock over the incident.

A mild 3.0 magnitude earthquake jolted the north eastern state of Manipur striking no less panic among the people on Sunday.
