Manipur Panchayat polls on Oct 7
In the BJP-ruled Manipur, decks have been cleared to hold the 5th general Panchayat polls in six districts of the valley, including Kakching and Jiribam slated for October 7.
The State Election Commission on Thursday confirmed that three different colour of ballot papers will be used by voters in the upcoming polls.
It will be pink-coloured ballot papers for Zila Parishad, yellow-coloured ballot papers for Pradhan, and white-coloured ballot papers for Members in the scheduled polls.
At the same time, three different colour of ballot boxes will be provided for the polling. The EC has appealed that vote should be cast using the right colour ballot papers and right colour ballot boxes.
A total of 60 Zila Parishad Members, 161 Pradhans, and 1,513 Members will be elected in the Manipur Panchayat polls 2017 where a total of 7,16,830 voters—3,48,139 males and 3,68,691 females- are eligible to exercise their franchise.
Counting of vote will take place on October 11.

In yet another wave of violence, suspected Kuki militants have launched a fresh attack on Meitei villages in peripheral areas of Manipur.
