A family is mourning after an 18-year-old girl was shot to death allegedly by her “boyfriend” at Moreh town bordering Myanmar early on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Moreh has kickked off a 24-hour total shutdown across Moreh to protest the killing begining 6 pm today.
Accused Seikhosat Haokip alias Sasat Haokip, 21, has been arrested after the girl identified as Nengneingah Khongsai, daughter of Letthang Khongsai of Chingphai village within Chandel district, was shot dead, police said.
Seikhosat Haokip is said to be a cadre belonging to KNA/KNO. He is a bodyguard of KNO deputy commissioner Sonkholun Haokip, based at Moreh.
The incident was reported to have taken place at the residence of the victim’ uncle located at Gilgan village near Moreh Gate No 1 around 4:30 am.
The deceased was a Class IX student of Mount High School, Canan Veng, Moreh.
Accused Seikhosat Haokip, son of Thanglet Haokip is a resident of Chavangphai village, Moreh.
One 9 mm country made pistol with three live rounds have been recovered from him, police said.
