ULFA sticks to independence gun

The United Liberation Front of Asom observed its foundation day on Friday reiterating its struggle for an independent Assam compelling authorities to tighten security across the state.

ULFA cadres have observed the day at Kakopathar where the outfit in rank and file vowed to carry forward the struggle to make Assam free of decade old exploitation.

Those who have already claimed to have eschewed the path of violence observed the day at the designated camps where the leaders and cadres turned emotional. The celebration began with the hoisting of the flags to be followed by discussion on the future course of action.

The outfit was founded by Arabinda Rajkhowa, Arup Chetia, Pradeep Gogoi et al at a meeting at the Rong Ghar campus on April 7, 1979.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is gearing up for the assembly polls early next year. His government is preparing to dole out a huge Rs. 862 crore fund to distributed among the flood-hit people likely from November-end.Addressing a press conference in Dispur on Saturday, Gogoi said the huge amount would percolate benefit for 76.41 lakh people.“With this amount will help people repair the damaged houses apart from distributing yarn for weavers, seeds to farmers, blankets to poor people and pensions to senior citizens.
An uneasy situation prevails in Dhubri and Cachar districts after an irate mob clashed with police near  temple forcing the administration to clamp curfew on Saturday.  The epicenter is Agomoni area in Dhubri district a day after a group clash near a temple in Kaldoba area.The situation vitiated in the morning when as a guge group of hit the streets in protest against the clash on Friday. Arunachal Pradesh governor JP Rajkhowa attended the Srimanta Sankardev birth anniversary celebration at the Kristi Kendra in Naharlagun on Saturday.In his speech, Rajkhowa said that Sankardeva was one of the greatest saints of medieval India. A former MLA lands in trouble for alleged misappropriation for fund meant for the development of his local area. He is none other than Pranab Kalita against whom the Kamrup (Rrural) district administration has filed a case alleging sheer misappropriation for the fund.Initially, acting on the allegations of gross misappropriation of the funds during his stint as MLA in Palasbari assembly constituency, Deputy Commissioner asked the circle officer to institute an enquiry. The Deputy Commissioner is understood to have filed the case on the basis of the disclosure suggesting gross misappropriation of the fund.

A mild intensity tremor rattled Assam creating no less panic across the state on Friday. The tremor struck at 10-22 at night forcing the panic stricken people in the high rise buildings to come down fearing a disaster. Originated in Myanmar, the intensity of the tremor stands at 4.7 in the Richter scale.
