Illegal sawmill seized

An illegal sawmill was seized along with huge timbers at Khalugaon village this afternoon during a joint search operation in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday. The seized timbers would be amounting of over eight lakhs.

Based on input about illegal sawmill along the Khalugaon village,a joint team of forest,police and anti corruption & crime investigation front raided the area today afternoon and found the illegal set up sawmill and huge amounts of log and timbers inside a bamboo park at Khalugaon village under Gaurang Forest Range in Kokrajhar district.

The sawmill and timbers were seized.Forest department had seized huge smuggling Sal logs two-days ago at Rwnnwgwr under Jharbari forest range in Kokrajhar.

Forest official in the operation told that the illegal sawmill along with timbers have been seized and brought to forest office in Kokrajhar.

The seized logs would be over eight lakhs in its market value.Getting information about illegal sawmill that has been running in the village, a joint team raided the area and found all timbers,said a senior police officer.

A member of anti-corruption & crime investigtaion said that they jointly seized the sawmill along with timbers.

More than sixteen hundred NDFB cadres today formally laid down arms. In a ceremony organised at GMCH auditorium in the presence of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal 1615 cadres of the outfit submitted their arms before the government authority. Welcoming them to the mainstream chief minister Sonowal hoped that the Paresh Baruah-led ULFA(I) would follow the path of the NDFB. A few days ago the government signed a tripritite peace treaty with all the factions of the NDFB. In the treaty the Centre and state government, reportedly, promised to upgrade the BTAD as BTR.
Several organisations including AAKRASU and ABAMSU have reportedly, called a 12-hour-long Assam bandh on January27 in protest against proposed UTC for BTAD. These organisations are apprehensive that the Union government is going to upgrade the BTC as UTC. Already, they have warned the Union government to abdicate such move.
Several organistions have expressed resentment over the Centre's move to upgrade the Bodo Territorial Council as Union Territorial Council. According to sources the Centre would soon sign a peace pact with the NDFB . In the pact upgradation of the BTC as a UTC would likely to take place, sources revealed. Opposing the move AKRASU, ABAMSU and many other organistaions of the BTAD have warned the Union government to abdicate such decision. These organisations have also termed the proposal as undemocratic.
KOKRAJHAR: One junior engineer posted at Kachugaon development block has been arrested by police for his alleged involvement with a massive financial scam. Archana Rongne (50), was picked up by the anti-corruption wing of the Assam police. Sources revealed that the junior engineer was arrested in connection with a case registered in the Assam Police Anti-corruption Bureau (U/S 420/409/468 of the IPC and Sec 13(1)(d)/13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act,1988 (as amended in 2018).
