UNC for ‘democratic picketing’ from Dec 31 midnight

The Naga people’s consultation under the banner of the United Naga Council (UNC) held at Senapati on Wednesday resolved to launch ‘democratic picketing’ of Manipur state government offices in ‘Naga districts’ from the midnight of December 31 and prevent the district administration from functioning.

This additional mode of agitation will be launched even as the ongoing economic blockade continues. Educational Institutions, medical services, and power sector will be exempted.

The consultation was attended by Naga tribe councils, frontal and regional organisations, intellectuals, church leaders, parliamentarians, social leaders and members of the general public. The meeting appealed to all churches to offer ‘special prayer’ on January 8, 2017 against the declaration of 7 new district.

The meeting also decided that a sum of Rs. 20 is to be contributed by every Naga household towards strengthening the peoples’ movement for safeguarding the ancestral homeland under the aegis of the UNC, to be submitted by January 10, 2017. It was resolved that consultation will be held at all respective tribe levels by January 15, 2017.
