World Disability day celebrated at Tangla
International Day of Persons with Disabilities recognizing the millions of incredible people with special abilities & the right to a life of dignity was celebrated with a day long programme at Chatgari ME school of Tangla on Saturday .
The programme was organized by Sarba Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Udalguri block.The programme iniated with flag hoisting by Mr Mukul Saharia, the Headmaster of Chatgari Govt M.V. School.
Nearly 30 disabled students took part in the programme hoping to draw attention to their plight.
Having come together at the Chatgari ME school these differently-abled people stood shoulder to shoulder raising slogans of unity and took out a rally along the streets.
Head teacher ,Assistant teachers of different schools also joined the programe. The officials such as BEEO udalguri and cluster resource centre coordinator were present. The RP and ARP from inclusive education took initiative in running the programe. Different activities such as musical chair, blind fold, up down etc were conducted. The students were given the message that the disabledstudents are also same as those normal sudents. In the end a Prize distribution ceremony was also held.

A herd of wild elephants created havoc in Rajapara area near the Indo-Bhutan border of Udalguri district on Monday morning last. Wild Tusker damaged the walls and ate paddy stocks in the house of one Mahendra Deka. Two other commercial shops at Nalapara chowk area were also damaged by the Tusker. Though forest officials were informed about the matter they had turned deaf ear to it alleged the local residents. A voter awareness rally was taken out at Tangla today by Tangla College students, ASHA and Anganwadi workers with the help of Udalguri district administration. The rally was inagurated by Dimple Baruah, Assistant Commissoner Udalguri. Speaking to Assam Times, Baruah said that the awareness programme has been undertaken under Systematic Voters Electoral Education Programme (SVEEP) under the pursuance of Election Commission of India. The IQAC cell of Tangla College headed by its co-ordinator Satyen Sarma had introduced a three months "Functional Knowledge Certificate Course" on Spoken English , Internet Correspondence, Personality Development for 6th semester students of Tangla College. The inauguration ceremony of the same was held on February 18 at the college conference hall. Speaking on the ocassion Rajen Kalita former HOD Department of English mentioned the importance of English language in today's age of globalization. Saraswati Puja was celebrated in Tangla and it's neighbouring places. Students rushed schools and colleges to offer their prayers and seek divine blessings of Goddess Saraswati. Educational institutions were also seen distributing prasads to the students. People of all age groups irrespective of religion, caste, creed thronged the puja Mandaps. The Green Convention of the Udalguri district committee of Aranya Suraksha Samiti, Asom, a nature organization of the district has urged both the Union and the State Government to open a forest university, unique of its kind in Udalguri district at the earliest.
