Conspiracy against AIIMS in Raha!
Amid an escalating controversy over the proposed All India Institute of Medical Science in Assam, Dispur is set to feel more heat of protest in Raha. The BJP-led Assam Government is believed to have been preparing to allot a portion of the proposed site meant for AIIMS to Patanjali generating no less anger among the middle Assam people. Sources told Assam Times that the process is on to hand over a portion of the 650 Bigha plot under Dag No 149 to Patanjali meant for the proposed premier hospital.
“Both Delhi and Dispur do not want the hospital in Raha and that’s why there is no end of conspiracy. Even after the NGT directives against any construction in Changsari, a team is preparing ground work,” said AIIMS demand committee leader Sarbeswar Baruah.
“The preparation to allot land in the name of Patanjali is a conspiracy to take away AIIMS citing shortage of space. We won’t allow it to happen,” said AASU leader Mridul Hazarika and Tiwa Students Union adviser Prahlad Mosrong.
A number of local organizations has already sent memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union health minister JP Nadda Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Ngagaon Deputy Commissioner opposing the preparation to allot plot meant for AIIMS to Patanjali.
They said,”we are taking serious note of it. We are well prepared for a massive agitation if the Government refuses to listen to us.

The logjam over the proposed AIIMS in Assam refuses to die down with the National Green Tribunal on Tuesday directing the authorities not to start on the on grand project at Changsari till a final settlement is reached. Hearing a petition in Kolkota on Tuesday, the court refused to withdraw its earlier instruction to the government not to start construction in Changsari. The interim judgment is much to the delight of the people in Raha who have been vehemently opposing the premier hospital in the outskirt of Guwahati. The agitation for the proposed AIIMS at Raha is set to take a violent turn if the local organizations here are to be believed. Noted citizens and many local organizations here at a meeting decided to mount more pressure on the Government. Speakers in the meeting threatened to go to any extent if their demand is not properly looked into where the Government would have to shoulder the responsibility. They said that they were all prepared to face any eventuality for the proposed premier hospital. Normal life comes to a grinding halt in central Assam on Friday following a 12 hour bandh demanding the proposed AIIMS in Raha. Vehicles were off from the streets in Nagaon and Morigaon districts where shops and markets, banks and offices remained closed under the impact of the bandh. The bandh is peaceful and there is no report of any untoward incident during the bandh hours. Notably, the erstwhile Congress government proposed to set up the AIIMS campus in Raha. But the venue shave been shifted to North Guwahati much to the anger and disappointment of the central Assam districts who are taking up the case with the state government.
People in large number from Raha stagwed dharma in Dispur on Monday reiterating the demand to set up the proposed AIIMS in the area. Led by the Raha AIIMS Demand Committee, the protesters reached the capital city in the morning and started staging the dharna at Last Gate saying that they would remain calm only after the proposed AIIMS is set up in Raha. Talking to Assam Times, a protester said that they are well prepared to face any eventuality for the premier hospital in the central Assam place.
