Prez sacks Rajkhowa

Finally, the Centre has removed JP Rajkhowa as Arunachal Pradesh. The move got seal of approval from President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday evening following Union home minister Raj Nath Singh confirmed the NDA Government’s displeasure with the former Assam Chief Secretary.

The Centre sent feelers twice to Rajkhowa to wash his hands off on health ground. But Rajkhowa refused to do so even after the Supreme Court snubbed him for his inefficient handling of the Nabam Tuki Government issue.

Now Rajkhowa has confirmed the development saying that he has never been hankering after any post.

Assam Times broke the inside story a couple of weeks back when the he was kept under pressure to quit.

TET teachers storm Guwahati

The Assam contractual teachers' association on Thursday staged a massive protest in support of various demands, including the regularization of jobs. Thousands of teachers who arrived from different parts of the state took part in the protest held in front of the Directorate of Elementary Education office in Kahilipara. GMC polls on April 19

Guwahati: After months of will-it-won’t-it, the state election commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. The poll for the state’s largest urban local body will take place on April 19 covering 60 wards. According to official information, 7,96,829 voters will exercise their franchise at 789 booths from 7-30 in the morning till 5.30 in the afternoon. The authorities have announced the notification where the model code of conduct has come into force. Counting will take place on April 21.  

RS polls: Three candidates vie for 2 seats

Guwahati: Congress candidate Ripun Bora along with BJP, UPPL Pabitra Margherita and Rwngwra Narzary have filed nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election for 2 seats slated for March 31. UPPL names Rajya Sabha poll candidate

Kokrajhar: Rangaura Narzary will contest the Rajya Sabha polls slated for March 31. Narzary will receive support as UPPL, the ruling coalition allies for the second seat, while BJP has sealed the fate of the first seat with Pabitra Margherita as the candidate. Ripun Bora to contest in Rajya Sabha poll

New Delhi: Congress has named Ripun Bora as the party candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha poll slated for March 31. Bora, the incumbent, will be the candidate for the second seat who is expecting support from Congress,  AIUDF,  CPI and others.  The ruling party has already named Pabitra Margherita as the candidate for the first seat and skipped the name for the second seat since it lacks numbers.   Earlier BJP leaders claimed to have been preparing to name candidates for both seats.  Congress also had a few rounds of hectic confabulation with AIUDF leadership.  The terms of Ripun Bora and Renee Narah will expire on April 2.

New Delhi: The BJP's central leadership has named Pabitra Margherita as the party candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections slated for March 31.
