The Assam Public Works on Thursday urges both the government to take up stringent measures to deal with the spreading Jehadi activities in Assam. Addressing a press conference in the city, APW leaders Abhijit Sarma and Bitu Talikdar say if the government further fails to act accordingly, the indigenous people will be forced to take up arms against these Jehadis.
APW managing director Abhijit Sarma, Secretary general Bitu Talukdar have alleged that the government has been remaining silent on the stepped up activities of these forces. They further said these outfits have sneaked into the state from Pakistan and Bangladesh taking advantage of the government silence. According to them, the government who has been claiming achievement in dealing with the insurgency after killing of ULFA cadres, has been remaining a mute spectator at a time when these subversive forces are silently spreading their tentacles at the instance of ISI. The anti-terrorism NGO has demanded strong punishment for these activists with more stringent Acts than POTA and TADA. Also they said there should be separate jail for the apprehended Jehadi activists.
They alleged that despite sufficient proof, the government has not taken any stringent action against the ISI agent Sujit Bhowmik who was recently apprehended at Namati area in Baska district. Similarly, the government has freed Mufti Abdul Khan alias Abu Bakkar Siddique under public pressure after he was arrested. Notably, this Mufti Abdul Khan was arrested in on Decermber 27, 2007 at Barpeta Road and a case has been registered against him in Krishnai police.
