Humanity award for Aruna Roy

Noted social activist Aruna Roy will receive the prestigious Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award 2016. The Jury Board of the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) headed by Dr. Anil Boro, Associate Professor, Gauhati University finalized Roy for the award to be given away at a function in Rabindra Bhawan in
Guwahati on August 26.

Roy, a social activist is the co-founder of the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathana (MKSS), a social and grassroots organization for the empowerment of workers and peasants. It is a major civil rights movement in India and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Right to Information Act (RTI). She is also served as a civil servant in the Indian Administrative Service before deciding to dedicate herself fully to social and political campaigns.

A class IX student of Dotma High School, who has been went missing since January 5 last has yet  to trace out till now. Security forces belonging to police and army in a joint operation managed to arrest an active cadre of NSLA (anti talk faction) from Serfanguri area today in Kokrajhar district.  The cadre was identified as Robvan Hembram@Chunda.  A 7.65 pistol and a live bullet was recovered from him.
