A public meeting was held at Kalaigaon police station on July 22 to discuss ways and means to check social menaces like drug abuse,illegal trafficking of girls and woman,witch hunting,reckless driving etc and to help police department for maitainance of law and order and peace in the society.The meeting was organized by civil and police administration of Bhergaon sub-division at VDP Hall of Kalaigaon police station at 4 pm.Dimbeswar Das,Officer-in-Charge,Kalaigaon PS in his introductory speech spoke on the need for cooperation between police and public.Presiding over the meeting,DN Hazarika, SDO(S), Udalguri welcomed the move to form a Nagarik Samiti at Kalaigaon to work jointly for checking social issues like witch hunting,illegal trafficking of woman and girls to other states,drug abuse,child lifting,reckless driving etc.
Pranjal Borah, SDPO, Bhergaon attended the meeting as the chief guest.On the occasion he requested people of Kalaigaon to come forward to reduce communication gap between police and people and to create awareness among people specially in weaker sections of the society so as to control crimes before being committed.The SDPO stressed the need for protecting the interest of woman,children,senior citizens.He suggested that social and moral punishment instead of legal actions would be more meaningful.
The meeting was also addressed by social workers Kami Ram Saharia,Bakul Sarkar,senior journalist Jayanta Das etc.A Nagarik Samiti was formed in the meeting with Circle Officer,Kalaigaon Revenue Circle as president;Mouzarar Kamal Prasad Sarma as vice president,Officer-in-Charge,Kalaigaon police station as Member Secretary and Jogeswar Bhatta as Asstt. Secretary.The meeting decided to arrange a public awareness meeting next month at religious minority dominated Ranipukhuri police out post on August 10 at 1 pm.
