Gorkhas demand ST status

Hundreds of Gorkha peoples from four districts of BTAD region throng to participate in a three-hour sit-in-demonstration agitation programme on Monday at DRDA parking ground near DC office demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, recognition of Original Inhabitant (OI) status in NRC, nominate members from Gorka community in BTC council.

Agitators with banner,placards,fetoone participated the demonstration and shouted slogans demanding early granting ST status,OI status in NRC update, which was organized by Assam Gorka Sammelan, BTAD regional committee. The agitators voice sky wave with shoutings-‘No ST No Rest’, Gorkhas should be regarded as OI citizens in Assam nominate a member from Gorkha community in BTC council. The Sammelan submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister through Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar seeking early ST status to Gorkha community in Assam. The Sammelan warn to take vigorous mass agitation if their demands are not meet as early in coming days.

Laksmhi Sedai,president of the Sammelan told that the Grokahs are indigenous peoples of the state with own culture, identity and language because Gorkhas have been dwelling peacefully in Assam since time of immemorial as defense personnel, a few government officials and academicians, cattle breeders etc in all spheres of Assam. He has demanded the Gorkhas should get early ST status to meet healthy development I the state. He expressed serious concern over tactically non granting OI status to Gorkha community in NRC update in Assam, besides keeping community on confusion with marking non-original inhabitants.

He has put demand of OI status for Gorkha community while filling NRC update. He has also demanded a member should be nominated from Gorkha community in BTC council to represent community with development aspects.

“We started our agitation from Kokrajhar to the cause of ST status, OI in NRC update, nomination of a member from Gorkha in BTC council. We put demands to the higher authority and government to meet early fulfillment,other wise mass agitation will be initiated in days to coming. Government deprived Gorkha community from all fronts of development as well ST status since long years back. The government should take stern measure to fulfill community’s issues and aspects”,Sedai said.

It is my pride, to read the above article which is appreciated. Gorkhas are the key element for peace and prosperity of the soil. Even though, they are still struggling for their identification and their own home land. Each Gorkha has to be motivated, through a spirit of friendship and mutual understanding among themselves and communities around. In addition, walk together and work together to reach to great destination with a fruitful result. I would say, peace does whatever we want. So much thanks to my dear brothers and sisters.

The People's Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement has expelled Jebraram Mushahary, chief convenor of the committee for his anti organisation activity.  Rakesh Boro, chief convener (in-charge) of tgr committee told that the committee took resolution to expelling Mushahary, on it's executive meeting held on April 28 at Udalguri for his allegedly anti organisation activities carried out during shouldering of the organization.

Search operation continue for missing student

Police administrstion intensified its search operation to find out Ashinta Basumatary, a college student, went allegedly missing since April 22, along the deep jungle area at East Maligaon and Badrampur in Kokrajhar district on Saturday.  Police arrested three persons in this connection and has been intensified the search operation after revelation about allegedly missing student from arrested persons. NDFB-S link man arrested

Security forces apprehended a link man/over ground worker of NDFB-S militant outfit from Guruphela area under Kachugaon PS in Kokrajhar on Saturday. Based on an input about presence of militant outfit link men in the area, a joint team of police and army raided and able to apprehend the link man along with cash. He was identified as Dipak Goyary of Takampur No.2. Cash 50,000 recovered from him, was involved with extortion and new cadre recruitment.       

Aids and appliances distributed in Kokrajhar

Altogether 78 aids and appliances were distributed among differently abled persons at a programme held at Choto Molandubi in Kokrajhar district on Friday. The aids and appliances, included wheel chair,tricycle,hearing aid,hand crutch were sponsored from Alimco Kanpur and was organized by All BTAD Disabled welfare development NGO. Three arrested in witch-hunting case

Police arrested three persons in connection with the missing of college student Ashinta Basumatary alias Ola, who went missing from his house at East Maligaon in Kokrajhar, since April 22; on the other hand, accused woman for witch left her village to get rid of atrocities and threatens from the situation in the area. Computer training certificate distributed

A total of 22 trainees were given away computer training certificate at a function held at District Computer Centre in Kokrajhar on Friday. A month long free computer training to the youths belong to Indo-Bhutan border villages of Kokrajhar and Chirang district, was spobsored by 16th Battalion SSB, Ranighuli, Kokrajhar under CAP (NE) 2015-16, was concluded on April 25, which started from March 26. Road mishap kills 1, injured three

At-least a person was died and three others received injuries at a road mishap at Didwmpara area on April 17 under Bishmuri police outpost in Kokrajhar district. According to villagers of Dudwmpara off lately, two bikes coming from opposite sides head on collided on April 17 last evening, leaving a person died and others three received injuries .The bikes' registration bearing no.AS16-8974 and AS15B-1367. Witch-hunting: BA student killed

Member of a family accused of practicing black magic went missing since 22 April last at East Maligaon village in Kokrajhar district. The family member suspects foul play and filed a FIR at Kokrajhar police station on Thursday. Ashinta Basumatary alias Ola, a BA 4 semester student at UN Brahma College, Kajalgaon in Chirang went missing from his house since April 22 last.
