In a move that fetches joy for Assam and its people, a top ranked ONGC officer from Assam will head the Oil India Limited.
He is none other than Utpal Borah who is all set to sit in the helm of affairs of the oil public sector unit.
Borah, now Executive Director (Asset Manager) ONGC, who has been finalized for the post of OIL chairman cum managing director is expected to join within this month.
OIL has been running functioning without a full-time CMD since July 1 last year.
Public sector top management personnel recruiter Public Enterprises Selection Board last year conducted two interviews to select its head where Rupshikha Saikia Borah was selected. But the Prime Minister’s Office rejected the selection. The MoPNG search committee shortlisted 15 candidates for the interview. Kokrajhar district has announced the names of 176 newly recruited APBn constables on Sunday.SP Sunil Kumar declared the selected names who appeared in the written tests conducted by district level selection committee.Talking to Sunday, Kumar said that 176 persons including 17 women have been selected on merit basis. KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi has urged the Gauhati High Court to scrap the selected of the Assam civil service examination conducted by the APSC two year back.In his PIL he moved in the court, Gogoi said that corruption, nepotism and favouritism work in the entire process selection process.He claimed to have obtained some glaring evidence to substantiate his allegations against APSC.
The Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha demands UN intervention on the rights of indigenous people against the possible onslaught of the Bangladeshi immigrants.In a recent memorandum to the United Nations Organization (UNO), the umbrella body of 40 organizations said the Centre should implement the UN guidelines and measures to safeguard the interest of the indigenous people of the state.They further asked the UNO to send a delegation to Assam to get the actual picture of torture heaped on the indigenous people' in the name of the deportation of the Bangladeshi immigrants.
There is let up in the state’s overall flood scene. The water levels of the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries started receding from last night giving some sort of relief to over 13 lakh affected people in 4 districts. Only in Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts more than 400 people took shelter in relief camps.Many parts of Baksa, Dibrugarh and Kamrup districts came under the surging under waters in Barpeta, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur Tinsukia, Darrang, Nalbari, Golapara, Jorhat and Kamrup (Metro).
Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said 1,95,243 people have been affected as flood waters submerged 533 villages. The government has opened toll free phone numbers -- 1070 for the State Emergency Operation Centre, and 1077 for the District Emergency Operation Centre. Talking to Assam Times, official sources said the flood waters have also affected over 8,245 hectares of crop land. The government asked the district administrations to arrange relief and rescue material, and take stock of the infrastructural damage.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi strongly advocated an operation all clear like army action inside Myanmar.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, he said after Bangladesh and Bhutan, now Myanmar is the fertile ground for the north eastern insurgent outfit.Gogoi said that steps are on to firmly deal with the situation in Tinsukia where suspected ULFA militants gunned down a local trader and his daughter at Bijuliban area for refusing to pay ransom.
Finally Akhil Gogoi moved the Gauhati High Court alleging rampant corruption in the Assam Civil Service examination .The KMSS president who has been spearheading the fight against APSC has filed a public interest litigation seeking the court’s intervention.Talking to reporters he said that he was waiting for governor’s intervention after he appraised him of the rampant corruption in APSC with evidence.
