In a move that fetches joy for Assam and its people, a top ranked ONGC officer from Assam will head the Oil India Limited.
He is none other than Utpal Borah who is all set to sit in the helm of affairs of the oil public sector unit.
Borah, now Executive Director (Asset Manager) ONGC, who has been finalized for the post of OIL chairman cum managing director is expected to join within this month.
OIL has been running functioning without a full-time CMD since July 1 last year.
Public sector top management personnel recruiter Public Enterprises Selection Board last year conducted two interviews to select its head where Rupshikha Saikia Borah was selected. But the Prime Minister’s Office rejected the selection. The MoPNG search committee shortlisted 15 candidates for the interview. River police on the Brahmaputra recovered a decomposed body on Wednesday.It was widely believed to be of Pranab Mahanta who went missing after allegedly killing his wife along with two daughters inside his residence. The temperature stood at 30 at 7 in the morning and it could go up to 38 towards the afternoon.Weathermen blamed it on a low atmospheric pressure over the northeast Bay of Bengal preventing moisture flow into the north eastern region.Guwahati city recorded the highest temperature of 37.6° Celsius in the month of July since 1966. The same figure is expected on Thursday.Same it is in Dibrugarh while Jorhat and Tezpur recorded 36° Celsius on Wednesday which is expected to remain unchanged on Thursday.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has asked chief secretary to set up a panel to formulate a slew of measures to protect and preserve the historical monuments in the state. According to official sources, Gogoi wants a scientific and systematic action plan for the purpose. Stunned by the revelation of illegal cigarette trade, Dispur on Wednesday announced a panel to probe it.Official sources told Assam Times that an additional Chief Secretary will probe illegal cigarette trade in the state.The panel will further suggest a slew of measures to check and disband illegal trade in cigarettes reportedly happening in the state. The panel will study different aspects of the illegal trade in cigarettes and come out with a strategy to stop it.The announcement came a day after FICCI released a report on illegal trade in seven core sectors resulting in Rs 39,239 crore of revenue loss in 2014.
