The move to auction 12 oil fields in Assam runs into a hail of state-wide protests. Announcing a slew of protest, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad threatens to intensify protest if the Centre refuses to restraint by July 8. Talking to Assam Times, AJYCP leaders in Sivasagar said they are holding a 12-hour strike at the oil field in Sivasagar district on Monday. On Tuesday, the influential organization will further block the national Highway No 37 in protest against the controversial move of the Modi Government. On July 8, they would block the rails opposing the move.
GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students Union leaders and activists are no less upbeat over the publication of the first NRC draft on Sunday midnight. The influential student organization is opening a centre in its headquarters' Swahid Nyash to help the citizens find out their names in the NRC draft. Many AASU leaders and workers spent the night at the centre helping the citizens providing necessary information. "We have opened this centre to help those who have moved us seeking our help. Since 8 in the morning people are making long queue in front of our office to check their names in the draft. We are helping these people," said an AASU activist.
