The move to auction 12 oil fields in Assam runs into a hail of state-wide protests. Announcing a slew of protest, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad threatens to intensify protest if the Centre refuses to restraint by July 8. Talking to Assam Times, AJYCP leaders in Sivasagar said they are holding a 12-hour strike at the oil field in Sivasagar district on Monday. On Tuesday, the influential organization will further block the national Highway No 37 in protest against the controversial move of the Modi Government. On July 8, they would block the rails opposing the move.

The big question is when Public Sector companies like OIL and ONGC cannot make profit from these fields, how can Private Sector Parties can make profit. Are they superior to ONGC or OIL in in technology, equipments and manpower ?

Kokrajhar,Jan 17: Noted Bodo litterateur Chittaranjan Mashahary passed away after fighting for the last couple of months on Wednesday.  He he 76 when he died at his Belguri residence in Kokrajhar in the wee hours.    BTAD areas observed a half holidays on Wednesday to respect the demise of the huge figure. Oil tankers set on fire in Jagun rebel attack

MARGHERITA: Petroleum products worth crores of rupees have gone up in flame when rebels set on fire nearly a dozen of oil tankers in Tinsukia district forcing the security forces to launch a massive menhunt on Tuesday. Hardcore Naga rebel held in Ledo

MARGHERITA: Despite a stepped up counter insurgency operations a section of Naga rebels has been unleashing terror along in the form of extortion along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. The Assam Rifles jawans on Tuesday held a hardcore NSCN(K) rebel during an operation in Ledo who has been extorting money from a section of people in the area. Wild elephant electrocuted to death

HOJAI: Yet another wild elephant died of electrocution in Hojai on Tuesday sending shock and anger among the nature and wild life activists across the state. GUWAHATI: After a brief silence poaching strikes again in Kaziranga where a full grown rhino was killed on Sunday. The forest guards deployed in Bagori range discovered the carcass hours after the poachers killed it for the horn.
