Bid to check traffic problems in Tangla
In view of the security for the ensuing declaration of Assembly election results on May 19 and growing road accidents , the Udalguri district administration has felt the need organise the traffic system.
A team of officials drawn from the district traffic police, transport and enforcement departments leaded by Bhaskar Dutta DTO Udalguri on Sunday undertook a drive at M.B Road near the Tangla HS Field to penalise the drivers of overcrowded vehicles and driving without helmets and driving licences.
In the drive, the authorities penalised drivers for overloading and two-wheeler drivers for not wearing helmets.
'We have taken out such drives ensuing growing accidents.Similar spot-fine drives were taken out in the district town which drew huge revenue,' said an official of the team.
IC traffic Sona ram Medhi of local police said "We have been regularly manning the road carrying out such drives in the town,but people seem not to be cautious and prefer paying spot-fines rather."
Many two-wheeler riders were seen making excuses for not wearing helmets some even indulged in verbal altercations but none were spared even women riders were seen paying spot-fines.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.
AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two others for not wearing masks.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.
The house belongs to Fakira Ansari, Manik Ali,Bhim Ram,Raj Kumar Prasad,Akon Rabha and Sankar Basfor.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.
