We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Border row: Gogoi, Roy to in fence- mending talk on Tuesday

Assam and Meghalaya Chief Ministers will meet on Tuesday next to make an end to the border row which has simmering for years.Talking to Assamtimes.org, official sources here say Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is set to sit in negotiation with his Meghalaya counterpart on Tuesday in Dispur to devise a mechanism to resolve the issue. Judicial custody for Ripun, 2 others in bribery case

A special court in Delhi on Saturday has remanded sacked education minister Ripun Bora, his aides Ramesh Maheswari and journalist Mukul Pathak to judicial custody. The court will hear on Monday a bail petition filed by Ripun Bora who was arrested on Tuesday last along with his associates Ramesh and Mukul from New Delhi and Guwahati respectively while they were trying to bribe a CBI officer with Rs 10 lakh. On Wednesday, the court sent the first two the CBI custody. Meanwhile, all the three have been sent to the Tihar jail. Earlier, amid tight security they were produced before the jam packed Tis Hazari Court.

Rhino again killed in Kaziranga National Park

Yet another rhino was found killed in the Kaziranga National Park on Friday. Poachers, who killed the rhino have already taken away its horn to reach the rhino poaching tally to 24.According to information, the body of the one-horned rhino, slain about three days ago, was found on Friday in a water body at Singimari with its horn swan off. The body of the rhino bore bullet marks on both sides of its head and on the side of its right leg. 12 hour statewide Assam bandh disrupts normal life

Normal life in some parts of Assam is heavily disrupted following a 12 hour bandh call by the All Assam Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) from early in the morning on Friday. According to Assam the bandh is total in the tea tribe dominated area as it is sponsored by the tea community students body demanding the sacked education minister Ripun Bora's capital punishment for his role behind the killing of tea tribe leader Danial Topno. Joint operation: 2 ULFA men killed in Nalbari
