We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

CBSE announces award of scholarship

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has invited applications from eligible candidates for the award of scholarships.According to information, the award includes schemes like merit scholarship for single girl child for class twelfth, for professional studies and for under graduate studies for single girl child. A CBSE official said the eligibility criteria for each scheme is available on Board website-- www.cbse.nic.in. The Board has also sought applications for renewal of schemes awarded last year by August 31.

Gogoi calls on PM, takes up AOD-NRL issues

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to announce a special compensation for the Numligarh Refinery in the line of BPCL, HPCL and IOCL. Gogoi who called on Dr Singh at the PMO further has urged the Prime Minister to retain the separate entity for the Assam Oil Division. He also apprised Dr Singh of the state's prevailing law and order situation. Gogoi further called on union home minister Shivraj Patil and petroleum minister Murli Deora and took up several issues.

Recruitment: NF Railway in the line of fire

The Northeast Frontier Railway is bracing up for yet another showdown in the time of recruitment. Thousands of unemployed youths on Monday staged a statewide protest alleging recruitment of candidates from outside Assam against some posts lying vacant.. Miffed at this repeated practice of depriving local candidates in the the northeast frontier railway, the unemployed youths activists burnt the effigy of railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in front of the NF Railway headquarters, in front of the Guwahati Press Club and also in front of the Dibrugarh Railway station on Monday. According to information, most of the 220 candidates recruited as gangmen in the various district hail from outside....

2 ULFa cadres surrender before Dhubri police

Two hardcore ULFA cadres surrendered before deputy inspector general of Western range in Dhubri K V Singhdeo on Monday morning with an AK-81 rifles, three magazines, 72 rounds of live ammunitions, 2 Chinese hand grenades and mobile phones. According to information, the are said to be Zahirul Islam and Majubur Rahman. Both of these cadres were trained up in Bangladesh and later unleashed a reign of terror in Meghalaya and in some other parts of Dhubri.On the other hand, a joint team of Guwahati and Nagaon police apprehended two ULFA cadres at Niz Demow near Nagaon. Seven poachers arrested near Kaziranga

Police have arrested two poachers during an operation in Karbi Anglong district in the wee hours on Monday and recovered skins and bones of wild animals from their possession.According to information, Amal Ingty of Langhing Manikpur was picked up firstly during a routine check up. 2 arrested for drawing cash with stolen ATM cards

Police have picked two persons on Sunday charging them with drawing cash from SBI ATM counter by using a theft card. According to information, they have been identified with the help their photographs police received earlier. Both they withdrew an amount of Rs 70,000 from an ATM counter in Beltola. It was done after the missing of two ATM cards belonging to one Rafia Ahmed on April 28. On Sunday, they have been arrested after being identified as Pankaj Gayan and Chandan Barman by police with the help of Hatigaon State Bank manager Abdul Aziz.

Unification: AGP holding more talks with regional parties

The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad is holding yet another rounds of unification talk with its breakaway AGP(P), Trinamool Gana Parishad and PLP.The discussion, which is holding in Dispur is set to finalise the modalities for unification of the state's regional parties. Goalpara: 2 ULFA rebels killed in encounter with Army

Two ULFA cadres were killed during an encounter in lower Assam's Goalapra district on late Sunday night.According to information, the encounter between ULFA and the Army's Kumaon Regiment at Khadong area near Krishnai in the district where two dreaded cadres namely Debesh Rabha and Phugen Sutradhar alias Marshal Baruah alias Doctor were killed..Both of them are from 109 Battalion of the baned insurgent outfit. Thse two cadres were said to be close associates of the dreaded U:FA terrorist Lal Deka. Both they joined the outfit in 1992.Later 2 pistols, 2 hand grenades, 2 magazines, 2 watches and five rounds of ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. Investigation is going on.
