We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Encounter near Namsai: 2 rebels killed

The army killed two more terrorists at an encounter near Namsai along Assam-Arunachal border early in the morning on Tuesday. According to information, the encounter with the Army's Dah Division took place at a distance of 10 kilometers in the north of Namsai and the rebels have yet to be identified. Lakhimpur flood

People crossing the river with the help of a boat in the flood affected Lakhimpur on 16-06-08 as the first wave of floods hit Lakhimpur on 14th June 2008 with breaches occurring in the embankments and overtopping of cofferdam of Ranganadi, Singara and Kakoi rivers following heavy downpour in their catchments in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. NE gets external affairs ministry branch office in Guwahati

The ministry of external affairs has open its North east branch liason office in th city on Sunday. Inaugurating the office, external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee said the new branch secretariat would go a long way in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of the NE region in having better liason with the External Affairs Ministry on issues concerning foreign trade, foreign direct investment and cultural exchanges.The minister urged the north eastern states to take advantage of the new branch secretariat to move forward with Look East policy and greater coordination and planning by the North Eastern Council (NEC).Mr Mukherjee stressed the need to improve connectivity saying economic...

PM to unveil Vision 2020 on July 2 to uplift NE

The Centre is drawing up a massive plan to boost trans border trade in the North East with the neighbouring countries.Addressing the reporters on Sunday, DoNER minister mani Shankar Aiyer said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan will unveil an ambitious programme to expedite the pace of socio-economic development of the north eastern region. ULFA-Army encounter in Sivasagar: 4 ULFA cadres killed

Altogether four hardcore ULFA militants were killed at a fierce fighting with army at Kanubari along the Assam-Nagaland border in Sivasagar district. According to information, acting on a tip off, army conducted a raid at the area where a few ULFA cadres were basing for the last couple of days. The deceased ULFA cadres have yet to be identified. The Assam Government’s claim over Langpih gets more teeth as the Gauhati High Court has asked the Meghalaya government to a compensate an amount of Rs 1 lakh each to three residents of the area after being arrested by the Meghalaya Police charging them with illegally residing on Meghalaya territory.According to information, the High Court passed the order on Friday while it was hearing the petitions of the victims namely Ram Bahadur Chetri, Dipendra Limbu and Tara Bahadur Gurung who were arrested in 2004 by by the Nongstone Police station. North Assam reeling under ravaging flood waters

The flood situation in the north Assam district remains unchanged for second day. Breakage at the Subansiri Dam

The cofferdam of the 2000 MW Subansiri Hydropower Project has breakage at around 11.30 AM this morning. Due to this, water level at the Subansiri riverbed has suddenly risen up and washed away several huts located at the bank of the river. More than 100 villages are affected in the downstream of the river. Panigaon is the worst effected area. There is no news of any casualty so far.
