Thunderstorm kills one

A person was died and another received serious injury following heavy thunderstorm hit at two separate incidents in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.

The heavy rain and thunderstorm came around 10 am in the morning in some areas in lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district,leaving one person identified as Lakshman Chouhan, 60 of Jamguri Chouhanbasti,Chandrapara died and another tea estate labour received serious injured at Lalmati village near Kokrajhar town. Chouhan was immediately rushed to Kokrajhar Rup Nath Brahma civil hospital, but doctors declared him brought death.The injury rushed to hospital,was identified as Pramila Biswas(29), who was plucking green tea leaf at Kokrajhar tea estate while the thunderstorm hit at her.

Kartik Rabi Das, relative of casualty said that the man was died today morning following thunderstorm hit at him in his own home at Jamguri Chandrapara area in Kokrajhar.The thunderstorm was so heavy that struck at him and died.

Kanin Biswas, father of Pramila said, ‘His daughter received injury following thunderstorm hit her at Kokrajhar tea-estate when she was busy tea leaf plucking.The day was saw bad weather since morning and face of natural calamities’.

Dr MK Phukan,doctor said, ‘A person was found brought dead in the hospital and another also received serious injury for thunderstorm hit. Different cases have been found in the hospital since few days for natural calamities happening in the region’. ‘Peoples should not be out without chappals during the thunderstorm to safe from unwanted incident during heavy thunderstorm’, he said.

Security forces apprehended a link man/over ground worker of NDFB-S militant outfit from Guruphela area under Kachugaon PS in Kokrajhar on Saturday. Based on an input about presence of militant outfit link men in the area, a joint team of police and army raided and able to apprehend the link man along with cash. Aids and appliances distributed in Kokrajhar

Altogether 78 aids and appliances were distributed among differently abled persons at a programme held at Choto Molandubi in Kokrajhar district on Friday. Three arrested in witch-hunting case

Police arrested three persons in connection with the missing of college student Ashinta Basumatary alias Ola, who went missing from his house at East Maligaon in Kokrajhar, since April 22; on the other hand, accused woman for witch left her village to get rid of atrocities and threatens from the situation in the area. Computer training certificate distributed

A total of 22 trainees were given away computer training certificate at a function held at District Computer Centre in Kokrajhar on Friday. At-least a person was died and three others received injuries at a road mishap at Didwmpara area on April 17 under Bishmuri police outpost in Kokrajhar district. Member of a family accused of practicing black magic went missing since 22 April last at East Maligaon village in Kokrajhar district. The family member suspects foul play and filed a FIR at Kokrajhar police station on Thursday. One apprehended

A person identified as Jahidul Islam was apprehended by security forces in a joint operation from Rupsi in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday. A 7.65 pistol,magazine and three live ammunition were recovered from him.
