Election awareness meeting

An election awareness meeting involving officials from district administration, sub-divisional and officer in charges and members of various monitoring teams on Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation(SVEEP) was held today at Circuit House in Kokrajhar.

SK Malviya, election awareness observer in Kokrajhar attended the meeting urged the officials to make public awareness in the district to implenment the  ensuing election in free and fair with increase of polling percentage.

Briefing the importance of awareness among the voters, Malviya called upon the officers to make necessary steps to create awareness among the masses so that the voters are well aware of all the process of electioneering.

Malviya earlier made a field visit in many parts of the Kokrajhar to get the feel of the public opinion on election.

Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner and District election officer MP Sarma briefed on the outfline of the District election plan and urged all officials present to carry out their assigned duties with utmost sincerity.

Later briefing media persons, the district election officer said the administration is all prepared to hold the election in the three LAC- 28 Gossaigaon, 29 Kokrajhar West and 30 Kokrajhar East in free, fair and peaceful manner. He said the district election officer has directed all parties and officials to obey the model code of conduct.

He said necessary arrangement has been made to hold the election peacefully. He also said security has been tightened, including in border areas of West Bengal and Bhutan. He said he has spoken to his Bhutanese counter for help and cooperation in border areas.

Sarma also said they would be using the Bhutanese sims during the election time to be used in shadow areas where Indian sims are not accessible. He said they have also urged the Bhutanese counterpart to make the sims available.

He said they have urged the Bhutanese counterpart to check sell of liquor so that it does not flow easily in border areas.

Gossaigaon SDO(Civil) Monoj Kumar Baruah, Kokrajhar Additional DC Bhaskar Das were also present in the meeting.

Former president of Kokrajhar district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Binati Bala Basumatary resigned from her party membership on Monday.  Basumatary submitted her resignation letter to the state party president citating personal reason . She was Kokrajhar district BJP president for 2011-2015, who had gained strength of the party through her strong leadership in the district. Basumatary's quit of the party ahead assembly election would draw a set back party strength in the Kokrajhar. Three cadres of the NDFB(S) were arrested by security forces in a joint operation belonging to police and army at Hakata village under Barama PS in Baksa district on Sunday. The cadres were identified as Jwangsar Boro @ KK, Mohit Mushahary and Pramod Ramchiary @ Khankari @Raja   of Baksa district.
