Workshop on Golden langur census organised
A census technique workshop on Golden Langur was organised by Kokrajhar Wildlife division in association with Primate Research centre NE India at Choraikola in Kokrajhar on Tuesday.
Hundreds of forest staff,NGO volunteer and students participated from various parts of the district in the workshop and took knowledge and awareness about census technique of Golden langur in the region.
The actual census of golden langur will take place on February 22 for a week and final reports of the census has been expected to published by first week of March.
Raghunath Boro,DFO of Kokrajhar Wildlife division,attending the workshop said,
‘We have planned to make census in the Chakrashila wildlife sanctaury in February month which is the best time to make census works. It is a workshop to create awareness on conserving of the Golden langur,scheduled- I animal that found in the region’.
He said that the organising of workshop and training on census of Golden langur will extend help to identify the rare animal Golden langur in the region during the cenus works.
Boro told, ‘The first census on Golden langur was hold in 2008-09 in the region and identified it’s various troupes that found in the Chakrashila wildlife sanctuary and it’s adjoining areas. During the last census, 241 troupes of Golden langur found with 2294 population -in Ripu Reserve Forest under Kachugaon division, 163 troupes found with 1461 population in Chirang Reserve Forest under Haltugaon division, 66 troupes found with 501 population in Chakrashila wildlife sanctuary, 9 troupes with 66 population in Nadangiri Hiill Reserve Forest,12 troupes found with 112 population at Abhaya Rubber garden(Nayekgaon) in Kokrajhar district.In Manas Reserve Forest under Chirang division found 22 troupes with 263 population, and 23 troupes with 213 population found in Manas National Found’.
Dr Jihosuo Biswas, Primate Research centre NE India,Fakrruddin Ahmed,Ranger of Nayekgaon Range were also preseent in the work.

An awareness meeting on artificial insemination and calf rally, organised by ICDP, BTC in association with Veterinary officer, key village centre, Kokrajhar was held at Balajan near Bodoland University in Kokrajhar today. BTC executive member for Veterinary and Animal Husbandary department Shyam Sundi inaugurated the rally graced as chief guest.
