Nature organization demands Forest University in Udalguri
The Green Convention of the Udalguri district committee of Aranya Suraksha Samiti, Asom, a nature organization of the district has urged both the Union and the State Government to open a forest university, unique of its kind in Udalguri district at the earliest.
The convention which was held on Sunday on its Dhansirighat office premises in Udalguri district with Bhabani Prasad Upadhyaya, adviser of the nature organization in the chair, felt that the Government should consider setting up a forest university, where students interested in natural resources could avail higher studies in the environmental sciences and other allied subjects and carry out their research works.
Dwelling upon the theme, Dr Hari Charan Das, secretary of the Aranya Suraksha Samiti, Asom said that since the demand has been first raised by the nature organization here at Udalguri, the Government should initiate the process of the opening this university in Udalguri district. The Green Convention was also addressed by Sarat Baruah and RR Sapkota, newly-elected president and secretary respectively of the Udalguri district committee of the nature organization, Narayan Deka and Atul Nath, vice-president and publicity secretary respectively of the district committee and Somesh Mahato, central executive member of the organization.
The new district committee which took charge from Sunday from the outgoing committee also resolved to help the Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) which has ventured to create a ‘man made forest’ near Bhairabkunda and the villagers to tackle the rising ‘man-elephant conflict’ in the district.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.
AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two others for not wearing masks.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.
