ABSU resolves to intensify statehood demand

The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has reiterated to the demand of creation of separate Bodoland state, which has resolved to intensify more rigorous and series of movement to the cause of statehood.

The 48th annual convention of the students union was concluded at Thuribari Noudari Pwthar, Bijni of Chirang district with three-days colourful programme scheduled on Sunday.

Promod Boro, president of the students union said that the students union has resolved several resolutions on its convention which dominated creation of separate Bodoland state, mission master race, mission total revolution for total change.

Boro has strongly slammed both the governments for delaying solutions of Bodoland issues as ABSU and its allied organizations have been demanding since five decades for the safety, security and protection of the identity, land and resources of the indigenous people.

‘The students union resolved to intensify more rigorous and series of movement on demand of separate state Bodoland’, Boro added.

An open session was also organized on the concluding day with Promod Boro, president of the students union in the chair.

M Kodandaram,Chairman of Joint Action Committee,Telangana graced as chief guest.Kodandaram, in his speech said that creation of new state is to be adopted by centre government to pave way good governance.

‘The demand of separate Bodoland state by ABSU and Bodo organization is genuine demand and rights spirit to protect identity, culture and tradition of the Bodos in the country. The government should create new states across the country as soon possible’, he said.

Zoramthanga,former Chief Minister of Mizoram attending the meeting as appointed speaker opined the need of creation of separate states across the country including Bodoland is need of the hour to make nation a healthy and integrated.

‘Bodoland demand issue is oldest demand in the country that has been going on democratic way.One day Bodoland state will be created as common publics are come forward to the movement’, Zoramthanga said.

Dr Kameswar Brahma,president of Bodo sahitya sabha inaugurating the open session said that the spirit and steps taking out by the students union to the welfare of students community and social upliftment in the region was appreciated.

Raja Bundela, president of National Federation for New State,ex-MPs Urkhao Gwra Brahma,Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary, Bimal Gurung, chief of Gorkha Territorial Administration were prominent guests on the session.

Earlier in the morning, a cultural rally was also carried out to mark the convention, was flagged off by Gobinda Basumatary,former president of the ABSU.

The students union in its delegate session opining the need for the safety, security and protection of the identity, land and resources of the indigenous people of the proposed Bodoland area, the students union resolved to intensify more rigorous and series of movement on demand of separate state Bodoland. During the months of January and February, the joint movement group will launch massive awareness campaign on Bodoland demand in every village of the proposed area and in the month of May and June the movement group will assemble in the National Highway taking all domestic animals, livestock and agro-based material on demand of Bodoland.  A helpline number to be launched for the Bodo students as enquiry and advice in the prospects of career and various professional courses available, besides resolving of organized of Education Expo-2016 from May to June every district committees for the first time (Science Model Competition, Exhibition cum Career Fair) for the Bodo medium students to enhance the Bodo medium education.

He said that students union has resolved to observe the modality of the proposed arrangement of ‘Boro Kochari Autonomous Council and study the modalities before giving any opinion. At the same time ABSU express worry on the Bodo and Tribal unity after formation of the declared council. The nomenclature of the council as “Boro-Kachari” is used to denote the sub-tribe of the Bodos and other Tribal groups of Assam. While all tribal has their own single identity and council of their own, the nomenclature “Boro-Kachari” is unclear as the declared council will be exclusively for Bodos only. Simultaneously, ABSU demands that the government of Assam must have a discussion taking all the Bodo Nationalist organizations of Assam. The students union resolved to have a dialogue and discussions with all the Bodo Organizations, political and non-political to draw the mechanism to solve the socio-political-economic issues of the Bodos.

The students union has resolved to continue to place the demands to the government of Assam and India which included implementation of the Schedule Tribe and Other traditional Forest Dwellers’ (Recognition of Rights) Act, 2006 and early distribution of land pattas to the forest dwelling tribal in Assam,immediate creation of separate Directorate for Bodo Medium Education in Assam, constitute of a committee of “Tribal Belt and Block Survey Committee” by the Assam Government to revisit the protection of the Existing Tribal Belt and Block in Assam as per the Chapter X of Assam Land and Revenue Regulation Act, 1886; immediate distribution of all Bodo medium textbook in LP, UP and High School through SSA & RMSA from present academic year 2016.

The All Bodo Students Union and All Assam Students Union strongly slammed the answer script of HSLC examination gutted fire in Jorhat on Friday.  Lawrence Islary, general secretary of ABSU condemned the answer script paper gutted in fire was unfortunate and unwanted for the state.
