5 AANLA cadres arrested

Five All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA) cadres, who were engaged in extortion and miscreant activities for a long time in various parts of Assam-Nagaland border, were arrested by the security personnel. According to Police sources in the night of 20th June a joint team of Assam Police and 142 Battalion of C.R.P.F., headed by S.D.P.O. Dhansiri conducted a search operation in the Doldoli area of Merapani near Assam-Nagaland border. During the search operation five cadres of AANLA were arrested. The arrested cadres were Bobai Kurmi (20), Bimal Kurmi (19), Mahesh Kurmi (19), Sanjib Kurmi (19) and Kumud Langa (25). The police also recovered a money collecting pad, some letters demanding money and two mobile handsets from the arrested persons.

Compared to other States of India, why are the youths of North-East India so very much into 'Easy Money'? Is it because the older generation is very corrupt too? A Seminar or debate can be held on this topic...it should include students, surrendered militants, govt officials et al in the discussion.

Shoot out at Panbari - two militants killed

In the wee hours of 28th October two militants were killed in a joint operation conducted by 11Guards Regiment of Indian Army and Assam Police, in the Panbari-Methoni area of Bokakhat under Golaghat District. The long wait of book lovers of Golaghat is over as Golaghat Book Fair has opened its doors today. The Book Fair has been organized by the joint efforts of National Book Trust in association with Golaghat Sakha Sahitya Sabha and Golaghat Dist. AGP reunified at Golaghat

14th October 2008, this day will remain a red letter day in Assam’s political scenario as all the breakaway fractions of Asom Gana Parishad, the largest regional party in Assam, makes formal unification. Tragedy on Vijaya Dashami - 2 youths drown

National Book Trust to organise Book Fair at Golaghat

National Book Trust (NBT) in association with Golaghat District Sahitya Sabha and District administration is going to organize a book fair from 17th to 25th October 2008 at Golaghat town. Public rally in Golaghat by AASU against illegal immigrants
