Much to a major boost for Congress in rank and file in Assam, Prashant Kishore has agreed to help the ruling party in the assembly polls March next year.
The brain behind the grand alliance in Bihar, who held a round of informal talks with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently, left New Delhi for Guwahati on Thursday afternoon.
Sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that the poll Chanakya will hunker down with Tarun Gogoi and Rahul Gandhi on Friday to finalise the pre poll strategy when the Congress vice president will on a two days visit to the state on Friday.
"Gogoi recently talked to Prashant at the instance of Rahulji who agreed, in principle, to help Gogoi retain the power in Dispur," said a senior AICC leader.
Notably, former Chief Minister and AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta met Kishore in the capital on Tuesday evening and discuss the strategy an anti-Congress and anti-BJP wave in Assam. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar helped Mahanta met the poll strategist at the Bihar Bhawan in the evening.

In yet another incident of rape, a 29-year-old woman died after being brutally raped and dumped by a driver in Silchar on Thursday. Stung by incessant criticism Guwahati police on Thursday arrested a businessman charging him with holding syndicate.Popularly known as Naanka, the businessman was nabbed by police at 2-30 in the afternoon. Stern action awaits fake financial institutions. Disclosing this in the Assam assembly on Thursday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nilomoni Sen Deka said that as of March 6, 2013, a total of 192 cases had been filed against 117 such companies. He said that police have also seized 106 bank accounts and Rs 93.81 lakh. He said that this was apart from seizure of property worth Rs 24.28 crore and six bighas of land have also been seized from fake financial companies.
Dispur is ready to appoint 12,000 more teachers in the state. Education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters on Wednesday that a list of 12000 teachers of high schools in 22 districts would be available at 12 noon on Thursday. After one week, the appointment orders would be sent to the TET successful candidates to enable them to join in mid-April.
The recovery of a body creates no less tension in Dispur on Wednesday. Identified as Tinku Singh the Assam Sachivalay employee was missing from April 1. He went out with the of his friends on that day. The body was rescued from Last Gate which bears injury marks. His family members have called it a cold blooded murder.
Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.
A truck driver was killed and five others have been injured when two trucks collided heads on in the out skirt of Guwahati on Wednesday. The mishap took place at Sarutezpur at around 7.30 where a truck carrying sand collided its head on another truck. One person died on the spot while five others have been sent to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
