Fishcol meet held

The annual function of college of fisheries, Assam Agriculture University, at Raha was held on Monday in the presence of several distinguished guests including K.M Bujorboruah, VC, AAU, Jorhat.

The students of the college performed a number of colourful programmes on the occasion. Dr K.k Tamuli ,the I/c dean , college of fisheries, Raha, Dr.Ayub Ali, Dr. Hemendra Chandra Bhattacharyya, director of extension education and physical plant, AAU, Dr.Apurba kumar Chakraborty, director of research (vety.) AAU, Khanapara as well as the students were present on the occasion. 

The programme started with the inaugural speech of the college dean. Prizes were distributed among the the winners of sports events and performers in the academic sphere. 

Anisha Sharma of the college anchored the programme while vote of thanks was offered by Sanjoy Tamuli, vice president, COFSU, Raha. 

K.M.Bujorboruah was the chief guest in the function. He gave away the prizes to the students. The chief guest lauded the performance of the students and encouraged them to work hard so as to excel both in academic and extra-curricular activities.

Dr.K.K.Tamuli i/c , dean, college of fisheries, Raha lauded the teaching staff, non-teaching staff and students for the fine performance of the students.  Dr Rajdeep Dutta, associate professor of the college, was also praised for the making the programme a grand success. 

Raktim Sharma, General Secretary of the college read out the annual report.

Stranded persons return from Coimbatore

Raha: Went through great difficulties as there was no work, food or money during lockdown, a  group of 223 stranded persons including children , differntly able persons, returned to Nagaon in an Assam-bound special train from Coimbatore , Tamilnadu  on Sunday morning. Raha: The hue and cry to stop the toll plaza in Raha on the National Highway No 37 has proved to be a futile exercise when NHAI has resumed tax collection from Monday.  That too before the end of the nationwide lock down to keep the killer COVID19 at bay. Raha administration plastic cleanliness drive

NAGAON: As part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's  call during his Independence Day speech to clean up the environment from plastic, the local administration here along with Raha Municipality Board (RMB) on Saturday launched a drive at Raha Toll Plaza along the four-lane highway to clean up the plastic garbage from the area. Notorious snatcher held , hand made pistol seized

Nagaon: The Nagaon police today apprehended a snatcher from Bhakatgaon bazar.    Identified as Bilal Uddin of Silongoni village , the apprehended person was involved in a snatching case under Sadar P S.    One hand made pistol was also recovered from the possession of the accused. Encephalitis toll mounts

Japanese Encephalitis claimed as many as 64 lives in different parts of the state till Tuesday. The number of affected people reached 265 on Tuesday. KMSS burns effigy of PM

Nagaon: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) chief Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday announced a state-wide effigy burning protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the announcement of not declaring Assam flood as a ‘national issue’. As part of this state-wide protest , the district unit of Nagaon KMSS today burnt the effigy of PM Narendra Modi at Krishnaikhat on four-lane highway raising slogans against the BJP led government in centre and state. Truck driver arrested for reporting fake hijack

Nagaon: A Guwahati based truck driver and his wife have been arrested for reporting a fake truck hijacking case at the Raha police station , police said here on Sunday. Lakshman Das , officer in-charge , Raha police station told media ANN service that a truck driver Pranjit Kalita on Tuesday morning complained to Raha P S that some miscreants after beating him severely hijacked the truck he was driving from Guwahati to Tinsukia at night in Dighaliati area under Raha P S. Abhi - Neel murder case: Court declares two witness hostile

Nagaon: The Chief Judicial Magistrate court Nagaon declared two witness namely Numal Basumatari and Ujjal Mesh of Abhi Neel case as hostile.
