ULFA-I uses guerrilla tactic only for self defence and not for waging any war against India, said Dr Abhizeet Asom.

In a message sent to media on the Protest Day on Saturday, the ULFA-I chairman said that the outfit has been struggling to save the rights of the indigenous people of Assam.

According to the elusive ULFA-I leader, the "immature" student leaders who spearheaded the Assam Agitation surrendered before New Delhi when they signed an accord to deport Bangladeshi aliens in 1985 with Rajiv Gandhi.

"However, India in contrast is seeking military solution to our legitimate struggle to establish our birthright as enshrined in international statues and our indigenous masses are responding to the call of the hour to own what belong to them," said the ULFA supremo.

He further spoke of the India, Bangladesh land deal with reference to the history of East Pakistan. The outfit also said that the move to give refugee status to the non-Muslim Bangladeshis are strange.

Eyewitness told Assam Times that it is simply because of the speeding bus. A case has been registered in Dispur police station.

More death in ULFA camp

Yet another death seems to have rattled ULFA camp these days.This time the deceased is Tenzing Asom, the eastern commander of the banned insurgent outfit who died of cerebral malaria.In a message to the media on Monday, the outfit said that he died of cerebral malaria on February 14.

Cong prepared for huge rally

Assam Congress is gearing up for the women and youth empowerment rally in Guwahati slated for February 25.Senior party leaders at a meeting in Koinadhora on Sunday night resolved to make it a huge rally to counter the BJP rally attended by Narendra Modi.The meeting decided to ensure participation of more than 2 lakh people from across the state on that day.Much to their relief, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is understood to have agreed to attend the rally on February 25.   

Erosion in Jorhat AGP

Its an erosion in AGP. That too three months before the Lok Sabha polls. Senior AGP leader and former minister Hitendra Nath Goswami resigned from the party’s primary membership on Sunday.Hours after it, 28 local bodies in Jorhat deserted the party. They include three top central committee leaders. Goswami and his followers are believed to have been in touch with BJP. Notably, Goswami resigned from the party’s executive body in June alleging that the party leadership have been listening him. Since then, he has been retaining the party’s primary membership.

Businessman kidnapped

Suspected NDFB(S) militants kidnapped a businessman in Lakhimpur district on Sunday.Identified as Mukesh Agarwalla, he was kidnapped from Simluguri in Bihpuria in the morning at gunpoint.Rescue operation is underway. Police suspect it a handiwork of NDFB-S militants who have been unleashing terror in the entire districts for the last couple of years.
