ULFA-I uses guerrilla tactic only for self defence and not for waging any war against India, said Dr Abhizeet Asom.

In a message sent to media on the Protest Day on Saturday, the ULFA-I chairman said that the outfit has been struggling to save the rights of the indigenous people of Assam.

According to the elusive ULFA-I leader, the "immature" student leaders who spearheaded the Assam Agitation surrendered before New Delhi when they signed an accord to deport Bangladeshi aliens in 1985 with Rajiv Gandhi.

"However, India in contrast is seeking military solution to our legitimate struggle to establish our birthright as enshrined in international statues and our indigenous masses are responding to the call of the hour to own what belong to them," said the ULFA supremo.

He further spoke of the India, Bangladesh land deal with reference to the history of East Pakistan. The outfit also said that the move to give refugee status to the non-Muslim Bangladeshis are strange.

One person was killed and three others have been injured when a vehicle hit the post of a bridge in Morigaon district on Saturday night.The incident took place at Dharamtul on the National Highway No 37 when the vehicle carrying four people to Jajori in Nagaon met with the mishap. One person died on the spot while three others were rushed to the hospital.  
The West Bengal police have arrested two top KLO militants hours after they were released by their Nepal counterparts on Friday.Identified as Tom Adhikary and Niambor Rajbanshi, the KLO militants would be produced before a court on Sunday. In a yet another incident that strikes the attention of the state’s legal fraternity, a lady lawyer has been sent to police custody for allegedly misbehaving with a judicial magistrate in Jorhat district on Saturday.It took place in Titabor in the morning when the sub divisional judicial magistrate ordered arrest of a lady lawyer alleging that she misbehaved with him as she conducted a case of bail petition.After heated arguments, the magistrate issued an arrest warrant against the lawyer alleging misbeviour and disturbing in the functionings.
