Tuki inspects secretariat complex

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki along with PWD Minister Gojen Gadi, Minister DoTCL and Mines Tirong Aboh, Parliamentary Secretary Karya Bagang, Chief Secretary and other officials visited the construction sites of the State Civil Secretariat and State Legislative Assembly complexes on Monday. 

Insisting on timely completion of both the prestigious projects, Tuki told the PWD officials, implementing the projects, not to compromise with quality, safety and feasibility of the buildings. 

Officials informed that the Civil Secretariat would be completed by March 2016, while construction of the Assembly building is being taken on a war footing. APCC President Padi Richo also accompanied the CM on the visits.

Bhupen Hazarika birth anniversary

Music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika's 90th birth anniversary was observed at Kokrajhar Press Club in Kokrajhar on Thursday. 

Rathindra Sinha, teacher of Grahampur HS school lighted the lamp to inaugurate the observation and paid floral tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika.Bhupen was a versatility of culture, art and literature field. His contributions were endless for the state of Assam ax well across the country, Sinha added.

It was organized by Anubhuti Sangskriti Gosti, Kokrajhar to mark the birth anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika

Singer and music composers from different parts of the district took part and presented their song and music on the occasion.

PVSM for Anjan Kr Gogoi

The Centre on Wednesday announced Param Vishisht Seva Medal for Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi.

He would be conferred the award for his distinguished service to the nation. Bestowed the highest peace time award for rendering service of the most exceptional order, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of South Western Air Command was born at Dibrugarh to former chief minister Keshab Gogoi. Gogoi was the first batch of students in Sainik School Goalpara in the state in 1964. The National Defence Academy graduate was commissioned in the Fighter Stream of the Indian Air Force on June 2, 1973, and has since logged over 3000 hours of fying on various aircraft.

He is a Qualified Flying Instructor, a Fighter Combat Leader and a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College (Wellington).

Gogoi has also undergone the Air Combat Simulator Instructor's Course in UK, the Higher Command Course at Army War College, Mhow and NDC (Executive National Security Programme) in South Africa. The Air Marshal has held various key appointments, including Director General Air (Operations) at Air headquarters prior to assuming his present post of Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of South Western Air Command.

Opportunity for poor students

The Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST), run by the ERD Foundation, Guwahati, has offered a unique facility to poor but meritorious students helping them to pursue their dreams of becoming engineers. The Meghalaya based institute has implemented a scheme to make higher education accessible to the meritorious students from poor families of northeast India. “Under the scheme nearly 100 below poverty level meritorious students are presently pursuing the BTech courses in different branches of RIST,” said M. Haque, the chairman of ERDF. He also added that the students should score above 70% mark in final 10+2 examination to avail the facility in RIST. The students may approach the RIST with their certificate/mark-sheets with two recommendation letters (one from the Principal of the school/college last attended and other from any religious body/ institution familiar with the student’s locality.
