Facelift of roads & bridges

Roads and bridges in West Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh are getting a facelift. The construction work of Concrete Cement Pavement road from Paktu Tinali to Pakam village is going on smoothly and roads are being constantly monitored personally by Dukjum Lona. The project is likely to be completed during this winter.

Five persons died and four others sustained serious injury when the vehicle carrying them skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday. The tragic accident took place in the wee hours in between Palizi and Ramda in West Kameng district where the vehicle carrying at least nine people was going to Seppa. Eyewitnesses told reporters that the vehicle was negotiating a sharp bend before it slipped into a deep gorge where five persons died on the spot. On the critically injured has been battling for life at the Tezpur Medical College Hospital. Four other injured have been admitted to the district hospital at Seppa.

The Arunachal Pradesh government has refused to grant refugee status to the Bangladeshi Chakmas and Hajong people who migrated in 1964-69 and urged the Supreme Court to review its judgment. In its recent review petition before the apex Supreme Court, the state government said that the court passed the judgment without hearing the stategovernment. It further told the court that out of total 4637 applications, 4213 applications for citizenship do not fulfill the criteria of signing of oath of allegiance, as per the second schedule to the Citizenship Act, 1955 and police verification of character and antecedents required re-verification.
