Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Two college students died when their two wheeler hit into a road divider in Guwahati on Saturday. The incident took place at Amigaon area in the evening where one of the students lost his control over the bike before it hit into the road divider. Hundreds of Begali-speaking people in Tinsukia on Saturday boycotted the Independence Day staging demonstration to raise demands to ensure their safety and security. Led by the Benglavashi Yuva Chatra Parishad, the students thronged the town and started demonstration raising a slew of demands including the release of indigenous Bangla-speaking people from the detention camp. They further demanded immediate withdrawal of the cases members and activists pending against some of their members before the tribunals.    
Two persons were killed and three others sustained serious injury in a tragic road mishap in Tinsukia on Saturday. The accident took place at 12 noon when the car carrying them hit a tree in Durgapur area on the way to Kaziranga. The driver was believed to have lost his control over the vehicle and hit the tree.Identified as Mohit Goel, Rahul Modi, two passengers died on the spot while three others, namely, Aman Kejriwal, Punit Agrawl, have been battling for life at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital.

Amid Independence Day pomp and gaiety Dispur police have arrested Akhil Gogoi for staging unauthorized hunger strike in front of the state secretariat on Saturday. The Assam government has announced five new districts. The formal announced was made by chief minister Tarun Gogoi in his speech after he unfurled the national triclour at the Veterinary Playground in Khanapara on Saturday morning.In his address after hoisting the national flag in Guwahati, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi made the formal announcement to bring administration closer to the public. The five news districts are Biswanath, Charaideo, Hojai, South Salmara-Mankachar and West Karbi Anglong. With this, the number of districts has gone up to 32 from 27. .
