Amid Independence Day pomp and gaiety Dispur police have arrested Akhil Gogoi for staging unauthorized hunger strike in front of the state secretariat on Saturday. The KMSS leader arrived in the venue at 6-50 in the morning and started his hunger strike alleging the recent appointment of 89 ACS officer defying the PIL pending before the Gauhati High Court.
Then Dispur police officials who were guarding the area arrested Gogoi and two others and took the trio to the Chandrapur area.
Talking to reporters who were waiting to cover his hunger strike the KMSS said that the country has yet to get the real independent. “We have not got real independence. Policeraj prevails here where I have been arrested for staging hunger strike.”
According to policemen, Gogoi was not allowed to stage any strike in front of the state secretariat and that they have no other option.
Notably, Gogoi has been alleging rampant corruption in APSC where eligible candidates were not selected in the combined competitive examination conducted two years back to select candidates for ACS, APS and allied services.
Later, he moved the Gauhati High Court with a PIL which would be heard in a day or two. But the government has issued a notification on Thursday clearing the appointment of 89 ACS officers.
