Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

City hospital facing suspension

A serious allegation of medical negligence has forced the authority to suspend a premier nursing home in Guwahati triggering shock and anger among the patients and doctors engaged in it.The nursing home, now in the centrestage of controversy, is Pratiksha Hospital. Bandh disrupts normal life

Normal life across the state comes to a grinding halt on Saturday following the 12 statewide Assam bandh in protest against the Centre’s move for Indian citizenship for all non Muslim Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals who have been staying in the country.Vehicles are off from the streets. Assam army jawan dead in J&K

Guwahati bound train derails in MP

 Many people from the north eastern states are feared to have sustained injury when five bogies of the Guwahati bound train carrying them from Mumbai derailed in Madhya Pradesh on Friday.The mishap took place at 9-30 in the evening as the train arrived at stone’s throw distance from a local train station. It departed the Lokamanya Railway station early in the morning.  

More trouble for AIUDF MLA!

Indian citizenship: KMSS on strike

KMSS leaders and workers are on 36 hour hunger strike across the state in protest against the Centre’s recent move for Indian citizenship to all non Muslim Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals.Talking to Assam Times, KMSS leaders at Dghalipukhuri said that they won’t allow it to happen in Assam. “We are here. We won’t allow BJP and RSS to make Assam a dumping ground of immigrants only for the voting benefit of Congress and BJP,” said one of the protestor who is participating in the hunger strike at Dighalipukhuri.Another participants said,”If the decision is not withdrawn immediately we would intensify the agitation across the state.”

Gogoi moots appeasement formula

In a bid to divide the dissident MLLAs, chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with state Congress president Anjan Dutta are believed to have devise an appeasement mechanism. Gogoi has shortlisted a list of dissident Congress MLAs who are still remaining confused. Gogoi and Dutta have agreed to recruit at least ten MLAs as ministers and parliamentary secretaries.
