Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Assam police have to hang their heads in shame when a senior officcer was caught for aiding a gang of criminals to loot cash from an ATM van last week. He was none other than Bhupen Das. Police on Monday arrested the Rangiya police station officer incharge charing him with helping the gang loot Rs 19 lakh from a van. Police have recovered yet another amount of Rs 15 lakh from Goalpara tracing the Brinks Arya loot case. A joint team of Guwahati and Goalpara police seized the entire amount from a women in Krishnai hours after her son in law was arrested in this connection. Her son so in law Nayan Barman who along with six others looted the HDFC cash from a Brinks Arya vehicle last week. Five of them including the driver were caught a day afte they seized Rs 1.15 crore from their possesion.

Another middle-aged journalist, this time it is in poll-bound Bihar, has lost his life to the perpetuators. Mithilesh Pandey, 40, was shot dead on 25 October 2015 in his hometown under Gaya district. According to the family source, the miscreants (two masked persons) entered the victim’s house on Saturday evening and shot at him to death. The Jorhat police have arrested 2 youths on Sunday for their recent attack on an Austria tourist couple. Two others involves in the incident have surrendered. Senior police officials have been interrogating all the four youths at the Sadar police station. They attacked the couple when they were on the way back from Kokilamukh where the car was damaged. They were rescued by the local residents and police before being taken away to the Jorhat Circuit House. The next day the couple left for Myanmar via Nagaland.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced on Sunday that the South Asian Games would take place from February 6 to 16. Addressing a crowded press conference in Dispur, Gogoi said Guwahati and Shillong will host the event with the help of the state and Centre. According to Gogoi, the Centre would sponsor the event and that the state governments in Assam and Meghalaya will only facilitate.
In yet another major breakthrough, police have captured a youth from Goalpara on Sunday who along with five others who looted Rs 2.80 crore from a Brinks Arya vehicle in Guwahati five days back. Identified as Nayan Barman, he was caught during a special operation by crime branch in the wee hours. Rs 35 lakh in cash was seized from his possession. Police have already arrested five others including the driver a day after they looted the HDFC cash brought to deposit at ATM booths.

Yet another incident of farmer suicide strikes tragedy in Chirang district of Assam. The incident took place in Bijni area where a poor famer committed suicide. Identified as Lakheswar Rai, he hanged himself at his own residence. He has been suffering from acute financial crisis for the last several months.
