Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

In yet another blow for Asom Gana Parishad, Sootea MLA Padam Hazarika is joining BJP on Tuesday. Amid stepped up cases of farmers suicide, the Assam government will probe into the allegatoins of farmer suicide cases during the last 14 years. A government statement announced that additional chief secreatry SC Das will probe the media reports that 3,908 farmers committed suicide during the last 14 years. 
Congress MP from Koliabor Gaurav Gogoi demandds  intervention by Union minister for water resources Uma Bharti’s interventio to release the outstanding central share of flood and erosion management and erosion schemes. In a recent letter to the minister, Gogoi said that the state is implementing 41 flood management programmes with an estimated cost of Rs 1386 crore with 70:30 funding pattern. But, he said, the Centre has not released its share of Rs 1017 crore. Jorhat is gearing up for the international trade fair on Wednesday. Security forces are fanning at Pengeri area in Tinsukia district of Assam in search of four ULFA militants on Monday who are believed to have been hiding to extort money. Acting on a tip off Tinsukia police and army jawans conducted a raid in the area on Monday. A hardcore GNLA militant died at an encounter with police in Goalpara district of Assam on Monday. A police constable also sustained serious injury in the heavy exchange of firing which laster for nearly one hour. The encounter took place at a remote area in Krisnai where the militant died on the spot. Notably, police nabbed a militant with arms in the area on Sunday.     
Assam police have to hang their heads in shame when a senior officcer was caught for aiding a gang of criminals to loot cash from an ATM van last week. He was none other than Bhupen Das. Police on Monday arrested the Rangiya police station officer incharge charing him with helping the gang loot Rs 19 lakh from a van. Later he shared the cash with the criminals.  According to police, Das prepared the entire blueprint to loot the cash from the van when it was on the way from Nalbari to Baihata Chariali for refilling an Axis Bank ATM. Police have recovered yet another amount of Rs 15 lakh from Goalpara tracing the Brinks Arya loot case. A joint team of Guwahati and Goalpara police seized the entire amount from a women in Krishnai hours after her son in law was arrested in this connection. Her son so in law Nayan Barman who along with six others looted the HDFC cash from a Brinks Arya vehicle last week. Five of them including the driver were caught a day afte they seized Rs 1.15 crore from their possesion.
