Assam education minister Ripun Bora has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in New Delhi while he was there in the national capital. According to information, the education minister was arrested in connection with a Rs 10 lakh bribery case. Mr Bora was picked up at his residence from Mothura Road. Sources say he was arrested while he was trying to bribe the CBI officer which was probing a murder case of Danial Toppo. Interrogation is on.
Amar Asom journalist Mukul Pathak as also been arrested with Mr Bora. Mukul tried to bribe the CBI men on behalf of the minister.

One of the worst education minister I have seen so far. He is more interested in party and politics than the educational instituions of the state. It is good that he has been arrested but off course will be out soon as politics are full of criminals and record holders in breaking the laws instead of having a vision for the society or for the state.

This doesn't surprise me. Politics is full of corruption. Especially in Assam which is at the bottom of development index among the seven sisters. Bribery is inherent in the culture. They have ruined lives of crores of unemployed youths.It came to light the spot being in Delhi and that too due to involvement of CBI. There are so many other deptt. where corruption is a way of life.

What could be the datum of Education in Asom where the person in charge of educating people of the State is having no education in true sense.It is sad that most ministers of Asom are with criminal background.

This is a very sorry phase in the history of Our Beloved Assam. The current Government as a unit has been doing a fair amount of commendable work for the state but mishaps like this need to be dealt with by the iron hand. The Government needs to conduct a full scale investigation of all its major leaders and members and eradicate all instances of corruption and compromise. There should be no exception.
The Young Indian in General and The Young Assamese in particular is waking up. And he/she will not accept any lapse in commitment to the well being of the state. We all know that corruption is highly prevalent in Indian Politics and it is high time we as citizens and "Future Leaders" should address and extinguish this issue.

Corruption overshadowing the development activities of Assam. Ripun Borah is the best example of this corruption at this moment.
But the saddest part of the story is involvement of a "Journalist" in this corruption.
It's time to wake-up "Y-Generation".

It is a most unfortunate and degrading development for Assam. But then why single out Assam or Ripun Bora. Politics today has become a game of muscle power and money power. It is only the dishonest and the men with brawn who indulge in it. That is why people with any sense od decency stay miles away from it because they know that they can not survive in that world of corruption and vice. Take any political party - all are filled with people of dubious record.The maxim often mentioned that "money can buy anything" has been proved time and again and it was just Ripun Bora's bad luck that it misfired - or was it a demand for a larger largesses and our dear Minister was trying to be cunning and clever as reported in a section in the media ?

It is somehow fatuous to witness how politico honchos are making a mockery of the democracy. The fourth pillar of democracy that is the media should also come out of their honeymoon slumber and highlight the fact that it is no longer any sacred as it was to be. Is this the death knell of what used to be the last sentinel of democracy?? Are we moving towards a phenomenon called DEMOCRAZY??

Three peope have been injured while a powerful blast rocked a vegetable market in Nalbari. The explosion took place at 6in the evening. The injure peopes have been rushed to the hospital. They are Nalini Kalita, Rabindra Sarma and Biswajit Debnath. On the other hand, two hardcore ULFA cadres died at an encounter with army at the Dibru Saikhowa sanctuary. The encounter reportedly going on and the army jawans are cordoning off the entire area.
The Union home ministry has sent a slew of instructions for the north eastern states to deal with any situation during the Republic Day celebrations in the region. These instructions ask the state governments to take extra precautionary measures in view of Republic Day boycott call by United Liberation Front of Asom and three others. With less than 24 hours left for the Republic Day, security has been beefed up across the state to ensure peace and normalcy during the day. Besides intensifying patrolling on the streets, police and para military troops have been deployed at the vital bridges, railway stations along with oil and gas installations apprehending militant strikes. The Army jawans are monitoring the situation with helicopters in the city and its adjoining areas. Mean while, the Kokrajhar police have recovered a black polythithene bag which suspected to have contained some explosive materials in front of the Loknath Brahma Hospital at around 5-50 in the morning. The Bongaigaon police have recovered some explosive materials inside a bag from a bus which was on its way to Bongaigaon from Barpeta in the morning.According to information, the bag was recovered from the bus bearing No AMB 2081 during a routine check at the Chapaguri Road at around 10-35 in the morning on Friday. Despite drizzling in January Coldwave, around seventy five per cent voters exercised their franchise in the fourth and final phase of panchayat polling in Darrang district on Thursday. NABARD has planned to invest a total Rs 2224.63 crore for 2008-2009 in Assam. Addressing a seminar held on Thursday at the Assam Administrative Staff College, the banks’s chief general manager C K Gopalakrishna said of this amount, the potential assessed for agriculture is Rs 886.38 crore , Rs 441.05 crore for industries while Rs 897.19 crore is being kept for services. He said in view of the thrust on agriculture and food processing industries, a credit potential of Rs 35.23 crore has been estimated for the year. Noted economist Dr Jayanta Madhab inaugurated the seminar which was attended by several senior bank officials.
The Black Widow has killed one Amri Rupsi in Haflong on Thursday morning alleging him to be a police informer. According to information, the publicity secretary of the outfit Phaisang Dimasa came to Rupsi at around 7 in the morning and took him away to the street and shot dead from a close range saying him to be a police informer. Amid tight security, Assam is going to the fourth and final phase of the panchayat elections in Darrang district from in the morning on Thursday. The polling is going on at 728 voting centers in the district. As many as 4,50,000 voters are voting for 3659 candidates. The voting will end at 4.00 pm. Around 70 per cent of the voters had exercised their franchise in the first phase of the polls on December 31, while around 72 per cent cast their votes in the second phase on January 4. An estimated 74 per cent of the electorate had exercised their franchise in the third phase of polling on January 9.
Thirty-eight ULFA cadres, including a woman cadre, laid down their arms before the army in Tamulpur in Baksa district on Thursday morning. The group was by Nayan Kakoti who surrendered before the GOC 4 Corps Lt Gen B S Jamwal at 21 Mountain Brigade Headquarters of Red Horn Division.
